Convertible Update
I spoke with management at Nissan this morning. I was told the 350Z Roadster has arrived in the United States finally, via FED EX plane from Japan. The Roadster will be photographed TOMORROW (Jan 30th) at an undisclosed location.
We will have the first photograph available around Feb 6th.
I'll post as soon as I have it.
As mentioned before, the car's first public appearence will be in April at the New York Auto Show.

VQ... email me at jay@jmanz.com
Jeff might have some trouble getting pix of this little hotty, they are being REAL secretive about it. I have heard they are transporting the car to the secret photo location in a covered trailer, so it will not be seen by those outside of Nissan and the guy that does the photos until they want is to see it.
The 'spy' market can be quite a nice paycheck if you get a pohoto before anyone else can of a car such as the Z Roadster.
As Ares said... soft top, glass window.
No info as of yet on pricing, I have heard several rumors, as many have you have as well. Expect it to be around $30,000-$32,000 area.
Some other interesting goodies I have coming out of Japan from my sources inside Nissan (but NOT official so take them for what they are worth) is that there is a TT 350Z coming in late 2004. It will be debuted in Tokyo in November 2004 and will be based on the current engine. No word yet on pricing of course and Nissan North America still smiles and shrugs it shoulders when asked if the car is coming.
Yellow is going to be offered next year as well, my bad. I had earlier said it was a rumor because of things I had been told at the time. Well, those things have since changed. Yellow it is. Same shade as the SEMA car actually.
This year in Tokyo, Nissan is supposed to be unveiling the GT-R. More on that as I hear it.

Im not sure what... same engine, same TT, ASSuming same HP... when were talking about sports cars thats about 99% of it. the rest would be weight vs traction, Z should win weight, and GTR wins traction.
also TT would have to cost like 40grand(wouldnt imagine theyd sell TT without brembos and rays) and then I think their way past "sports car for the common man" history is my weak subject but I believe this ended the 300ZX...

I love the look of the GT-R concept and would love to see it in production. But a G35 based GT-R wouldn't be too bad either...

if your willing to pay MSRP(which youd do on the Z4 or S2000 anyway) then you could go to a dealer now and put a deposit for the first drop top that comes in.
just be sure to make the contract VERY clear, have a refundable deposit, and gaurentee MSRP. just be extremely specific about everything so there can be no suprises, otherwise you get your deposit back, and move along, no huge problem.

JmanZ,
What models will the soft-top be offered on? My guess is certainly not Track, probably not Touring.
Any other new colors in '04 or existing colors to be dropped?

I'm sure there will be a stock convertible with leather seats. Of course, supposedly leather will be available on all trim models next year, off the boat that is, not like currently.
I always thought the Z wasn't really a good comparison to the Boxster, mainly because the Boxster is a convertible and the Z isn't. The compromises a convertible makes in terms of weight and rigidity sometimes limit it's performance. If the drop-top Z holds up, I'll be very happy.

last I heard, which was a while ago...
they planned on only offering the convertable on the performance, touring, and track models. but that sorta conflicts with jmanz 30-32 area, since performance is like 30-31 in hard top, so with convertable it would have to be atleast 33-34.

Also I have herd about a highter hp n/a version comming out based on the same engine is there any truth to that?

thats ok, so long as it is automatic powered drop and makes the car still look good.... i might be willing to pay that much. Thing is, it gets to the same cost as the Z4 and S2000 thn... so I might have to drive all 3, and find as many roat tests on the z as possible. If you had your choice, would the z drop be it?
