Default Newbie here.

Howdy all,

First a little background on myself -
Turning 50 in November and have been driving a '96 AstroVan, well, since '96. Kids are grown and figuerd it was about damn time I pampered myself. Was seriously considering the new 2007 Saturn Sky, to the point of putting a $1,000 deposit down on one. Began hearing some not so good things about it from new owners such as the rear wheels rubbing on the top of the wheel wells and it's serious lack of power (177hp), to name a few. Have since gotten my deposit back.

Fast forward to yesterday. Spied a 350Z roadster with its top down sitting in a parking lot. Pulled into said parking lot for an upclose and personal look. Fell in love immediately. Went home and got onto my local Nissan dealer's website and requested a quote for a 2006 350Z Roadster, Touring model, 6 speed MT, and interlagos fire exterior paint. He came back this morning with a quote of $38,715. Your thoughts please?

Welcome. Buy one, you'll love it. I'd check the price compared to www.kbb.com to see if your getting a good deal. Does it have Navigation or any other options?

Also on the Nissan website you can search for one that is optioned just the way you want and get the MSRP, take that to a dealer you like and see what they can sell it to you for.

I have not shopped for them in a while so I can't say what kind of deals they're giving. When I bought mine in 2003 when they first came out I paid sticker, but I don't think they are getting away with that now.

Good Luck.

Gary, no it does not have a navigation system. I took your advice and went on the kbb website.

MSRP = $38,255
Invoice = $35,425
What consumers are really paying = $37,019

Looks like I have some negotiating power.

Thanks for the link.

I paid $34,500 for my 05 touring Z with mt, leather last year. Prices seem a little higher in the west, plus inflation, $37,019 sounds good to me.

Your welcome, you'll enjoy it even more if you feel like you got a good deal. You would absolutely love it on that road that goes from Flagstaff down to Sedona, one of my favorite drives

Welcome! You will love the ZR. I was looking at a SKY for my wife. The fact is its a redressed Solstice. I can't get over how the gas tank is in the middle of the trunk. The soft top looks a little weak too, it always appears wrinkled and the Ferrari-stlye backside looks mickey-mouse.

You are right about both the top and the trunk. Can't even fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk for crying out loud. They are coming out in the fall with a redline version, 240hp I think. Still doesn't convince me.

Look for a left over '05, if you can find one. I just picked up a super black '05 touring, brand new, for $32,000. Dealer was looking to dump inventory. The changes between '05 to '06 are important to some people, but to me it didn't make a difference. Either way, you'll love the car!

It really depends on where you live. I live in Palm Springs and your lucky if they will sell it to you for MRSP. So I drive 2 hours to the beach and I can usally pick up cars for little over invoice over there. I bought my (new) 04' 350z Touring Roadster for $36k ($2.2k off MRSP)... Just bought a 06' FX35 fully loaded this last weekend and got them to take $3800 off MRSP...

Best of luck...

I purchased mine for $500 under invoice and I'm very happy with the car.

Others have liked it as well, there are now 3 2006 ZR owners where I work.

And my golf clubs fit in the trunk!

Thanks for all the encouragement gang. I talked to the salesman yesterday and told him I didn't want to pay over $37,019. He said he would see what he could do. I reminded him that there are plenty of Nissan dealers just up the road in Phoenix. I'll keep ya posted.

Sam, great idea about the free window tint, I'll give it a try.

They are bluffing...

Do what i did...write the price you want to pay out the door on a piece of paper and your phone number. Tell them if they want to sell a car TODAY give the number a call. Tell them you are going to make the same offer to the other dealerships in the area.

Walk out of the dealership and I will bet you they will call within 30mins.

Worked for me....04 Touring no navi...33,000 OTD!

Just out of curiosity, I looked at both the Sky and Solstice. Although they "look" fairly nice, there is really NO comparison with the Z. The interiors are all plastic. Boardering on ugly. The tops are manual. No horse power. Basically, you are getting what you pay for. They are OK if you want something for about $20,000 to $25,000. And I doubt if they will hold any kind of value down the road.

Good techniques for bargaining, although sometimes in summer when convertibles are sought after it might be hard to do. I just asked the dealer to meet me half way between retail and invoice price and shopped a couple of them until I got it. It helped that there was the exact car I wanted available and it just depended who would trade it (was 200 miles from my destination) for something in stock and make a deal that day.

You are absolutely going to love topless in this car! Everytime I drive it top down I have a big huge old grin on my face.
