Default How is an AT for a ZR?

Guys,

Currently I own manual coupe. Just like to hear some opinions.

Btw, my coupe has rims, exhaust, suspension, etc. I am not sure if I want to put those items in the ZR if I do purchase one. Do many of you have the ZR as stock?

Thanks,
Tony

IMO the Z or ZR should be MT only. Don't buy an AT. This is a sports car.

My ZR is far from stock. I don't personally like the look of a stock ZR.

Completely agree.

Promise to her that you will teach her to drive the manual . If she turns out to be unteachable, then you will have both the coupe and the roadster to yourself .

don't listen to the haterz.. AT is just fine. Manuals are super easy to learn imo, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.

Nothing wrong with owning a 5AT Roadster... It was the only way my Sister would allow her Husband to get one, so your not alone...

I used to be "your a wimp if you own a automatic" but after trading in my G35 Sedan 6MT for a FX35 which is automatic I've changed my opinions.... As you get older automatics are nice

That said I would probably never get a Automatic for my Roadster, especialy since its only my weekend car, but if your in a situation where the wife wants to drive it also then its a fair compromise. I've driven my brother's several times and its still a fun car...

If I were to rate the fun factor:
6MT Roadster 10/10
5AT Roadster 8/10

Of course if your were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate it would be more like this

6MT Roadster 5/10
5AT Roadster 8/10

Thanks for the good feedback. In fact all my previous cars were manuals.

Cannysage,

Are you still thinking about the Roadster?

Bubble,
Did you move down from SJ? I used to live there for a week man (haha), back when it was undeveloped.

I wouldn't be "teaching" her in the roadie ... better yet just borrow a MT car from one of your neighbors you don't like and let her grind away.

The AT in this car is great. It has nothing to do with manhood or anything else - it's all about what you prefer. If I put my foot down, I'll beat my buddy's MT roadster EVERY time because he really doesn't know how to maximize it's capabilities.

A well designed and programmed AT like the Z's will outperform the average guy on the street (who has no clue about power bands) every time.

Some fellow forum members recently enlightened me. If you plan to go 500+ rwhp then an auto is better way to go too. Just something to keep in mind

True 'dat.

I may be an unusual woman; I drove only manuals until about 10 years ago, when my *husband* said he wanted us to get an automatic. This was mainly because we lived in a large city and the stop and go traffic with a manual really was a pain.

I think the AT on the Roadster is fine. You can do the "shift for yourself" thing if you want, so you can still get that little buzz. I've used that sometimes, and it's fun. Most of the time, though, I just leave it in drive and it's fine. Gets plenty of zzzzoooommm to merge or get up to speed real fast.

MT -> been there, done that. It gets old after a while, especially when you have a daily driver stuck in traffic during rush hour. AT on a Z will still give you a good rush -- you can always switch to "manual" mode to get your thrills.
