I supposedly had my dash light issue fixed last week too, but it still stays on occasionally. Now they called and told me my new top is in, but it will take the outside contractor 2 - 3 days to install it. Does that sound right? Also they said that a rental car would NOT be included. If a warranty repair is going to take more than a day, shouldn't a rental be covered as well?

My top was the second one that my dealer did. They said that the first one took about 8 hours. Mine was a lot less but I do not know the exact time. Your dealer seems to be giving you the run around! Warranty work is covered with a loaner at no charge...I was just responsible for the gas used. Talk to the General Manager!!! Be polite!
BTW if anyone finds out about the "REMEDY" for the top dash light...please let me know. My ZR is now stored for the winter and the dealer is going to take care of it in March of '07. My dealership has been great through-out this whole ordeal. Good Luck!

Mine was ordered on Wednesday, October 25th. My service advisor said it would take 3 - 5 business days to get in and they would call me. Of course they didn't call, so I called them today and it was in. I don't know how long they have had it though.

It doesn't take longer than a day. They adding some contingency time (or the outsourcing shop is). I didn't get a rental car either.

Last night was cold, but clear. So the wife and I decided to drop the top on our way home from dinner. This time it took me about ten tries to get the tonneau cover to close completely and lock so the dash light would turn off. I haven't had the top down in a couple of weeks and it was almost like the actual vinyl top became less pliable and wouldn't compress sufficiently for the tonneau to close that last quarter inch. I take it in Monday for the top replacement and I will tell them once again about this issue. Hopefully they will get it fixed this time around.

Well, day two without my roadster has come and gone. Dropped it off yesterday morning (had an appointment) at 7:00am for the top replacement. Called this afternoon to check on the status and they assured me that it would be ready sometime tomorrow....unless it's not. I guess the contractor that my dealer uses does very careful (and slooooooow) work.

At least I get to pay $40 a day for the Sentra that I rented....that the Nissan is not covering.

Under warranty work...the dealer should supply a loaner...I would file a formal complaint with Nissan. 1-800-647-7261

I got my ZR back today, and I must say that the new top looks great. It is no different, construction-wise, then the old top. Still has the two seams running parallel to the doors and the single seam near the rear window running perpendicular to the other seams. However the seams are intact and the top has no alignment problems upon closing.

Regarding the tonneau issue. They service manager said that the passenger side locking mechanism needs to be replaced, so they ordered the part. Hooray, another trip to the Nissan service department.

I just got my top replaced on my 04 ZR, did great work, is it just my imagination or did they make the rear window wider on the new top?

Another issue that got fixed, was the passenger side visor would vibrate and make noise as it hit the plastic part of the top, but now there is plenty of clearence so I don't get that noise. It made the car sound like it had all the rattles and noises of American craftsmanship.

Just washed the car again after the replacement, and no more leaking on the drivers side!

Another top update. I have had my new top now for about a month and ever since the replacement, I have had no problems with the tonneau cover not closing completely. It has been rather cold here so I have only dropped the top 4 or 5 times, but so far the tonneau closed and locked each time and the dash light goes off. I have an appointment on Wednesday to replace the locking mechanism under warranty, but I am hesitant to have them mess with it yet again.

Your welcome...My Z is garaged for the winter but in March I plan on bringing it back in so they can find out why the dash light does not go out after the top is completely down. The dealer knows I have my Z stored.
However it anyone can find out why the dash light stays on & what the fix is please let me know so I can relay the message.

I just got back from the dealer to have my tonneau cover issue repaired. Apparently there is a locking mechanism with a sensor that that is installed below the two plastic roll bar things behind the seats. Mine is broken so the tonneau doesn't consistently lock into it and the sensor doesn't engage. Well, in order to replace said part, they have to disassemble the roll bar things (held together by a series of 7 clips). The technician told me that the clips tend to break when they take apart the roll bars so they always replace them. Well, when they ordered the primary part they didn't order the clips so I had the choice of them taking it all apart, replace the locking mechanism, ride around with half a roll bar, and come back when they have the clips in. Or, just come back when the clips are in and have them do it all then. Takes about two hours.

I opted for door number 2.

Don't worry about me, my time is nowhere near as important as theirs.

Don't worry about me, my time is nowhere near as important as theirs.
And there it is.

When I went to pick mine up, a piece of weatherstripping was hanging down the passenger side window. I asked the idiot assistant service manager if he even looked at my car when it came back from the subcontractor's top shop. Finally, I talked to the head service manager, who agreed to order and install a new piece of weatherstripping. Now for the relevant conversation;

me: "that will be the third trip back and forth from your dealership to make this right. Since TIME is the only asset that is never recovered or replaced once it is spent, what is your compensation?"

him: "huh?"

me: "how do you intend to compensate me for my time?"

him: "it's a warranty item, there's no cost involved"

me: "I want to be compensated in time"

him; "huh?"

me: "when I bring my car in for the next periodic service, I want your labor costs written off - your TIME as compensation for mine"

him: "uh, well, OK"

So when I take it in again (around February), we'll see if he holds to his word. I recommend this as a logical and professional approach to anyone who has their time wasted by a dealership.

It's worth a try.
