Default Roof closing problem

Hi guys,

I drive a 03 roadster. Ive recently encountered the following problem.

Open the roof, the roof tucks in, the compartment shuts but leaves a little gap as though there's not enough space, and the converible light remains on. I Open the roof again, (only the compartment part comes up), stop and press close roof again. The roof tucks in a bit more then the compartment closes shut. What's going on? I cleaned out the enclosure and tried to make more space thinking that the roof doesnt fit properly because of some restriction and nothing...

Any ideas?

Look to the other item on the forum regading TOP opening problems, lubrication is in 99% the answer of your problem. Its seems that the first problems start with the electric top operation on early Roadsters (2003 - 2004) now. Soon more will follow !

The electric operation is performed by tiny electric motors (original wiper motors), if there is too much restistance on the mechanical parts (dry gears or bow supports and regulators ) the system will not close at the first attemp but after repeated operations. Soon after one of the motors will fail because of overload, don't wait till that will happen ! Silly US 1800 for one motor.
Lubrication with window gear grease (High pressure and high viscosity) on the gears is necessary, but no dealer will do this at periodical maintanance check.

Give me feedback

Regards frm Amsterdam,

I think in the rest of the world, they sell models as the year it was made.

Roadster started as an '04 model - you could buy it in 2003 though - anyway - make sure you lubricate all the moving parts associated with your roof's opening and closing mechanism - with a good heavy duty silicone based lubricant.
