Default Get a real car

Last night while attending a car show with another member of our Z club, an older "classic car" owner walked by my husband and the other club member and mouthed off to my husband to get a real car. Larry said he was the only one who said any thing derogatory.

Larry just laughed and smiled and said maybe you want to go to the track and match up with me and see what a REAL car can do. The guy just walked away. No snide comment then.

When we first began attending these shows we got a lot of stupid comments. Now almost everyone accepts us. It helps to have some of the sponsors, whose services we have utilized, say nice things about us.

Any of you have similar experiences?

I hope "Larry" has more done to the engine of the roadster to say a comment like that. Mid 14's isn't something to brag about.

If you read the post, Larry said track not 1/4 mile. The car has been to the drag strip in the 1/4 prior to going F/I and ran very high consistent times. It had a full tank of gas, he did not power brake the launch, let the car shift itself, did not turn the tcs off, and just wanted to see what it would do consistently from a standing start. 15 seconds each time.

We have not ran the 1/4 mile in it since going F/I. It is not set up to be a drag race car. It is a show car. We do not expect to run 10, 11, or 12 second 1/4 mile times. We do expect to be able to run in the low to mid 13s with a proper launch, etc. We believe this is a realistic time.

When we do run it the first time it will be run just like before when it was n/a.
That way we will see the exact improvement in the time based on the Stillen system we have installed.

Ive only gotten compliments on my car(s), or just a disgusted look when I had test-pipes with a super loud rasp. Never a comment like "Get a real car".

The older I get the more I am convinced that 3 out of 5 people you meet are not all that smart.

what an ***! Only time i ever have issues is with the guys who have G35, they seem to think the G is far more superior to the Z. Not saying that they all think that but I have had a few G owners who have acted pretty snide in their comments

+1 It's funny how they think most of us z owners couldn't afford it or something. I met a lot of a**holes g35 owners. They think they drive something far superior when compared to the z but when questioned about performance, they say "it's just as fast a z" when in reality, most of them are not for some reason.

I would have bot a G but I couldn't find one with enough headroom.

If you are tall, you will fit in a Z better.

yeah, i noticed that too. You just seem a lot higher off the ground as well. But i got to say, the interior build quality is much higher though. Maybe the G was made for shorter women?

That is so true, except I think it may be more like 9 out of 10

Uhh... not to be rude, but didn't he run mid 15's when the car was NA? Also, I don't expect a Stillen SC to improve those 1/4mi times as much as practice would. IMO it's more of a show piece than a legitimate power adder.

Sure, the comment by the other person was "stupid", but the response was kind of weak in itself. I wouldn't say that unless I was ready to immediately back it up with some heads up runs.

Needless to say, it's all about how your car looks and how you carry yourself. I've pulled my Z into prodominately domestic and high hp racing hangouts and get plenty of respect from fbody/cobra/other domestic owners. This is mainly know what the car is capable of and don't try to talk it up to be more than it is.

The times were not in the mid 15s. It was a very hot and humid day. Larry tells me you didn't race your car that day because of the heat. We all know how the heat can reduce 1/4 mile times.

Larry and I both admire you and find you to be a wealth of knowledge regarding the z and cars in general. We don't expect to win many 1/4 mile races. We didn't purchase and modify the car to run 1/4 mile races. We are quite comfortable in showing the car. We have won numerous trophies with the car including 3 this weekend alone. One at the show where someone said get a real car.

Larry pretty much tells it like he sees it. He is not one to expand the truth.

We heard Nissan may be building a 400hp v8 Z. Is there any truth to this?

It's cause they're heavier.

Haha, yeah I would say that was rude. But, let it go in one ear and out the other. I did a show this weekend that was 75% HUGE trucks with tires taller than my Z. One of those owners walked by and said "look at that Toyota!" I walked away with my hand over my mouth cracking up. It all in good fun and being a good sport.

Do you have a pic of your car Zprincess? I've notice you and other people bringing up "show car". I hope it's tastefully done. A lot of "classic" car owners wouldn't appreciate it if it looked like a toy out of a cereal box.

Well, if not mid 15's, then 16's...

Regardless, until you've got timeslips or actual track experience you're just bench racing based on what you think your car is capible of. If that guy had a 500hp vette sitting on the other side of the lot and called him out it would have been kind of awkward.

And, uhh, no, I don't think there will ever be a V8 Z.
