Not to go too far off topic, but just wanted to mention that after 3 plus years of ownership....I'm pretty impressed with the low number of rattles with my ZR. This is my first roadster, but my buddies miata had a tonne of rattles after the first few years.

There was a problem with the passenger seat belt sometimes rattling around in the older Z roadsters (i.e. '04). I had hoped that they would have fixed that problem by '06. Good luck.

Well - it's going into Texas Nissan of Grapevine next week. They are going to use a chassis microphone (or whatever it is) to attempt to find it. I'll post an update after the appointment.

A recall? I've yet to hear an issue about this. Please show me a link.

Default No Luck

Well - spent the morning at Texas Nissan of Grapevine. They hooked up the 'chassis ears' - but could not locate the issue. Tighted up everything (nothing could be located).

By the time I went around the corner, the noise was loud and clear - and extremely annoying.

Well - we'll try again.

Again - it's not so much of a rattle or buzz - more of a thump or clunk - usually at lower speeds - I swear it is coming from the top area/compartment. Uggg - I was really hoping they would find something and FIX it. But I knew this - just like any other noise - would be elusive.

By the way - Texas Nissan of Grapevine - all were very polite - seemed like good guys to do business with. I just wish they could have come up with something....

Thanks.

I heard thats your TCS kicking on. It does that on some ZR's as they go into the driveway. I think it's normal.

Smile My softtop squeak solved

Attached is a pic of the location of the rattle / squeak I found on my 2007 Roadster.
There was no Service Bulletin covering this particular metal-on-metal rattle.
The rattle only occurred when the passenger window was fully up (and putting pressure on the top), and when hitting certain bumps or uneven pavement.
It was difficult to locate since the sound resonated throughout the tubular support arm, but you would hear it in the general area to the side of the top behind one seat or the other.
The rattle was fixed by bending the offending tab on the cable guide about 2mm so it would no longer touch the piece in front of it. (Two whacks with a flat punch and hammer.)
Open the top a little bit to get to this area.
Hope this helps someone.
It has been given to my dealer Hall Nissan for forwarding to Nissan in case they want to use it.

Thanks much for sharing. I've got an 06 roadster with an annoying metal-on-metal vibration coming from the passenger side, and I had hoped that your pic/solution would have solved the problem. Unfortunately it didn't.

On my Z, there's nearly a 1/4" gap there on both sides. I wonder if yours was an isolated incident.

Default Rattle...........

About 2 weeks after I bought my Z roadster, I would here a rattle over harsh roads. I could not pin point the rattle. As it turned out, it was the sub woofer behind the driver's seat. It was loose. It's been a year and no more rattles. Hope this helps.................

Default Found My Rattle....

As a follow-up to my earlier post about the passenger-side metal-on-metal rattle in my 06 roadster:

Someone in another thread suggested that I check the seatbelt. That, in fact, was the problem! Seems that the belt receptacle (the part you plug the belt into) was making the noise, which was being reflected off the passenger window/door panel.

My solution was to just jam it forward & down so that it gets dampened between the center console and the seat cushion.

So there it is! Now if I could just figure out how to make the headliner stop its endless "clickity-tickity" rattle....

hey, I had a problem myself with a clunking noise over bumps which really bothered me, dealership (obviously) found no noise. Anyways, on the door there is a piece of metal about 2 inches long that sticks out and goes into a little hole on the actual body of the car, pardon my description, anyways the coupes dont have this. Try greasing that piece up and see how that affects the clunking, worked for me!

Thanks for the idea Fernando! I've been looking for the source of my rattle for months and never thought it would have been the seat belt. Mine wasn't the receptacle but rather the retractor behind the passenger seat's right shoulder. Was a huge buzz kill when it started. At least I know what's causing it...and that's half the battle most of the time.
