Default Rattles

OK - just got my '06 ZR. At low speed over rough pavement, I have a rattle - sounds like it is coming from behind the passenger seat (maybe behind the roll-hoop). I've checked everything in the trunk - all is OK. Spare is tight. Nothing is in spare tire well.

Anyone had a rattle(s) that they have found/fixed?

Exhaust also seems to be tight. I've looked under the car, but well - can't see much.

By the way - just rolled over 1,000 miles. Dealer says if I can replicate it - they can attempt a fix. But I've been through this with prev cars - better I find it.

TIA

The 'hoops' behind the driver and passenger seat. Saves your noggin just in case the shiny side isn't up! LOL.

Well - I could check the trunk shocks. I'll do that in the morn - thanks for the suggestion.

THAT I did not check - will do that in the morning.

BUT - 80 degrees today - top down - noise gone. I'm thinking it is in the top mechanism or portion of the 'cover'. It's not just because other noise is around w/top down - slow/quiet areas, no noise/rattle. Will definitely narrow my search tomorrow morning (daylight helps). PLUS - going to be 80 again tomorrow here in N. Texas!

Checked compartment under the glovebox - clear. Insulation was a little out of place for some reason, but nothing in/around there.

OK - went over as much as I could. Compartment under glovebox is clean/clear.
I stopped the top mid-way to check the compartment. Everything was basically clean EXCEPT I found 3 small silver '*****' - looks like fasteners as they were jagged on one side. Imagine a ball bearing that had been screwed onto something - then broken off. I looked around to find others like them (still attached) - can't find any.

So - any thoughts? Did they just find their way into the compartment? Or did the break off of SOMETHING (I have no idea what) and now it is rattling/shaking.

This 'noise' isn't so much of a 'buzz', more like a 'chatter' over bumps.

I can bring it to the dealer, but I already know what they will say (which probably isn't much!)

FWIW- I had a loud 'creak' from a suspension bushing in the left rear. Went to the dealer twice before they got it by replacing parts. They have a sound locating device with 5 microphones with alligator clips that goes to a audio amp box and headphones. The idea is to clamp it to several suspension bits and see which gives the most noise. I forget what the part number is, but it is a listed suspension tool... Hope that helps...

Thanks for the suggestion. But as miraculously as it started, it went away. Not sure what I did...washed it on Saturday. Check the compartment under the glove box (empty). That's about it. Noise is gone. We'll see - I hope it stays gone!

Default rattle or creaking sound?

If you end up replacing stuff back there, make sure to check the alignment afterward...

Try checking the other compartment cover behind the drivers seat, I found that mine was making noises until it fell off. I had to put it back several times as it was too loose to stay in place. Finally put some black tape on the retaining tabs, no more falling off and no more noise.

If it is happening when the top is down and going over bumps then it would be your door. When I go over bumps with the top down it seams like something is rattling.
