Default Dynamated my Z.R.

Sup guys,

Well I Dynamated the area where the soft top goes in when you put the top down and I must say...it did help. It did reduce some road noise but I think the main part where I will need to Dynamat is underneath the carpet, door panels, and I also need to take out the plastic part where the cubby wholes are. However, I searched dozens of times on how to remove the storage bins behind both seats but I cannot find a thread on how to do it, so if anyone can lead me in the right direction...+1 to you.

In the roadster, where those 2 small cubby holes are located, when you look underneath the black vinyl where the soft top goes in, there are 2 holes, which are where the 2 cubby holes are placed in. I Dynamated that area, covering the 2 holes which I think helped a lot:

And of course, a pic of my baby:

Also, I was thinking about Dynamatting the trunk, but I don't that if I did do that area, it would not make much of a difference since where the soft top goes into is in between the cabin and the trunk..what do you guys think?

Default awesome job

How did you apply the dynamat? Is it an adhesive?

I agree on your comment about the trunk - doubt it will make a difference....

Yea, the dynamat is adhesive.... The top portion (which you see) is aluminum / foil sort of. and the bottom portion is somewhat like "tar"... it sticks very well once on contact. But if you want to make sure that it "really" sticks to the metal, blowdry with a heatgun or blowdryer.

Mind you that it is expensive, 5 sheets of 18 x 32 is $140 at Circuit City...and the worst part is that when I opened it there were only 4 in the box, not 5!!! But when I did this area, I still had about half a sheet left over.

I would recommend doing the doors and under your carpet inside of the car..as those area's are where most road noise comes from. I didn't know how to take out the carpet, so I first did where the soft top lies in...

But for sure Dynamating your doors and placing it underneat your interior carpet will help a lot.

Also, don't forget underneath the storage bins, as that is where most rattles come from...and I have read that this thing do stop rattles also since it absorbs most if not all of the vibrations from a moving car

The reason why I bought the Dynamat was because I have the Greddy Evo TT exhaust, and as you know, this exhaust do drone (but I have received many compliments on its sound). But when I installed the Dynamat, the drone did go away around 2~3 rpm. I mean, you still can hear the drone but not as much. Now I know if I did underneath the carpet, it will reduce the sound greatly as that is where the cat's are located.

I use to think chrome rims were "ricey"...but I guess that has also grown onto me too..but FOR SURE this will only be the chrome set of rims that I will be keeping.

Looks Good. Bet it sounds quiet. But isn't Dynamat fairly heavy?

That's what I've always heard, but I'm thinking its a fair trade off to get rid of some of the road noise.

For its thinness, yea it is pretty heavy. It is just basically a thin mat of tar with aluminum foil on one side. It sticks very well too.

All in all, I am pleased with my selection BUT I would have definitely gone with Fatmat on eBay. 100 sq ft for 120 shipped. this was only about 20sq ft for 140!!! I should have looked first. Also, search Fatmat on this forum and they do have some good feedback.

The only real weak link left in your Z (in terms of sound deadening) is the top. I was driving a P-car roadster the other day and the top is well insulated (multiple layers with sound deadening material). It really makes a difference on the highway.

But if you Dynamat the soft top, wont that put more stress onto the motors since it is much more heavier than what it was intended to work with? As in, it will break in the long run?
