Default Cuts in top?

This week I noticed what looks like crease marks in my top just behind each side window. On close inspection these vertical marks look and feel like something is cutting into the top. It appears that if this continues, I'll end up with several slices in the top. As best I can tell, the top is not being pinched between any metal. Has anyone seen this or had a similar problem? The top goes up and down at least twice every day.

thanks,

Pics would help. I've never heard of that problem. If your in SJ then it can't be a result of putting it down in cold temps.

Separation at the seams is common, especially on the older models (2004, 05), but I've never heard anything like what you described. Are you still under warranty? If so, I would have the dealer check it out.

.........the top problem is like an organism and is evolving into a new form for the '06+'s.

I am geting my top replaced on my 06 as it has cut like spots on each side where the top folds. It isn't bad but since it is free I am going to get it replaced. It is already in at the dealer I just have to get it put on. I know the biggest reason for this is if my car is moving the top is down, and when I stop it goes down. I also have 31k miles on it. If you got it use it.

I'll try to post some pics, but I'm not sure that the camera can distinguish between the shades of black. I too will take it into the dealer and we'll see what happens.

Yes, if you still qualify for the standard factory 3yr/36k warranty. If you have an extended warranty of any kind, then it's tough to say.

I had a tiny tear yesterday. I put the top down once and the rip is now 3" long.

Exact same spot, just below and to the side of the window corner.

A quick update -
When I took the car to the dealer they didn't give me any grief. They got approval from Nissan for a warranty replacement in less than 24 hrs. The top will be replaced this week and I'll let you know how it turns out.

I wish they would cover my 04 w/50K miles.

I will be robbing a bank soon to cover the replacement costs. (Damn previous owner didn't get this done.)

My insurance may get a claim that I was struck by a flying squirrel.

I have the same problem, 2 slits in a row, they've grown twice their size in the last 2 months. It's symmetrical to the passenger side as well.

I did get a new top from Nissan, the install looks good and correct. However, I can already see the crease lines where I'm certain that I'll get tears again. Seems like a design defect. The warranty doesn't get extended. The new top comes with a 12 mos/12K warranty but I still have 18 mos and 27K on the original 3yr/36K. My guess is I'll get a second new top courtesy of Nissan but by 2011 or 2012 I'll be buying one myself.
