'04 was the first year for the roadster, so more of them being on the market is no surprise. The issues I've had so far with my '04 Touring/AT (bought it new) were;
- the well known front tire "cupping", corrected under warranty (TSB issued) by two alignments and replacing the horrid stock Bridgestones with KDW's
- a seam separating on the convertible top on the passenger side rear corner. Top replaced under warranty.
- the fuel door was balky in opening (TSB issued), corrected under warranty.
Mechanically, it's been perfect. No issues at all.

my 05 softtop seam was starting to separate on both rear corners. It didn't happen until after the winter season (car sat outside with no cover or garage).
On more than one occasion, my softtop was ice.
I attributed the tear to the water expanding in that area, maybe causing the seams to tear.
Since then, got a new top under warranty and will keep it stored in a garage this winter season.

04.5 ZR purchased used w/ 21,000 miles on it two years ago. Car has 48,000 on it now. I have had:
- Top replaced (warranty)
- Shutter valve replaced (warranty)
- Weather Stripping replaced (warranty)
- Passenger air bag replaced (warranty)
I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I bought my '04.5 in January 2004. I had the tire alignment issue. Dealer gave me two new tires and alignment in November of '04. That fixed the problem. Had the driver's side seat cover replaced due to premature wear at the same time. That was replaced under warranty. No other issues. The car now has 28,000 miles and looks brand new although I realize that it doesn't have that many miles on it. It still turns heads and I still get a lot of people asking me what kind of car it is. The car is stock except for the the ugly Nissan badges which I replaced with with "Z" badges. I did not replace the rear badge. Unlike some, I thought the stock Bridgestones were OK on DRY road. On wet road they were about as effective as roller skates on ice. While not a fan of Goodyear tires, I bit the hype on their new Eagle F1 AS tire and was pleasantly surprised. I drove for three hours on I-95 through a pounding rain storm without a hint of hydroplaning. These are keepers in my book. For the money, this is the best performance roadster you can buy. I would do it again if given the opportunity, no question about it.

Bought my '04 Roadster in March '05, it had 13,700 miles on it. In the 3+ years I've had it, I've had to replace the trunk release latch switch and passenger side window motor, both were under warranty. Shortly after the warranty ran out (6 months) and the car had less than 24,000 miles on it I had to replace the 5th bow motor for the convertible top. Nissan was not interested in helping on that one. Several others on the forum have had the same or similar issue with top. I've really enjoyed the car but if you buy one, keep the top operating mechanisms lubricated.

04 1/2 ZR with 55k on it. Top is good, tires are good. I have had an ongoing issue with the fuel-filler. I can only get about 16 gallons of gas in. It has been taken to Nissan and "fixed", but it still exists. I also had the entire fuel tank replaced under the TSB for all Zs (pre-06?).

loving it still...
Much of the same as everyone else. I have an 04'ZR which I had ordered. Only 6.2 miles on it when picked up from the dealer. Other than the standard tire issues, I have had recent problems with the trunk lid and it rubbing against the tonneau cover. Additionally, I have the same seperating seam on the passenger side top.
Just out of curiosity, and mostly due to my laziness of not looking it up, can ?I still get it fixed under warranty? The car will be 48 months old next month.

Nissan general warranty is 36 months, 36, 000 miles. When I experienced my top motor problems the car was only 6 months out of warranty but had less than 24, 000 miles on it. Nissan had no interest in covering 5th bow motor replacement under warranty, nor were they willing to help defray the cost in any way.
I believe some others have had a bit better luck with claims of "known problems" after the warranty period. Nissan handles each case individually and, my experience has been, acts like yours is the only car that has had that problem.
good luck.
