Unhappy Can 350Z Convertible top be opened manually?

I had changed out the convertible top Tonnaeu cover with a carbon fiber cover. Made all the new conntections for that latches, etc. tested the operation and made sure that I had the motors working corectly before actually latching up the top to the closed position.

After latching the top in the closed position and attempting to open the top again I found that the top will not open. I get clicking noises from the rear of the vehicle but no movement. Is there any way of manually opening the convertible top?

the answer is NO. you can not open the top manually. you can close it manually but you can't open it...

See your owners manual page 3-25.

Yeah, I read that part of the Manual. Got the Cover from KGS Engineering and the Manufacturer is Seibon Carbon.

Is the rear latch between the rear window and the tonneau not releasing? If so, I believe there's a manual release in the trunk.

Is the problem that the motor under the rear window isn't raising that section of the top? If so, there are two arms that connect that section of the roof to the car near the headrests. Un-clip those arms with a small screwdriver and the rear window portion is free to move manually.

Right npw I have the car in the shop, getting the body kit installed and painted. I will be looking into the problem more when I get it back into my possesion.

Yes, it seems like the center latch in the Tonneau is not releasing. I will see if I can release any linkages in the top mechanisms when I get my car back.

All, thanks for th efeed back. Once I get everything fixed I will let you know and upload load some pics.

I also installed the Siebon carbon fiber tonnaeu cover in addition to the trunk and hood. I was pretty worried about the alignment with the two rear latches but everything worked fine. I agree with domrvt, it sounds like one or both of the rear latches are not releasing.

In reference to the Seibon tonnaeu cover, I didn't notice before but I do have to push the "open" top button twice while holding, for the top to lower down (I typically always leave the top down, I'm garaged at home and at work). When initially pressed there is slight noise in the area of the rear latch but nothing happens. After the immediate 2nd push, the top lowers. It definitely looks like there is an issue with the latch on the Siebon tonnaeu cover, it may be alignment or simply needs to be lubricated. If you haven't done so, try pressing the "open" top button multiple times while holding. I will try lubricating and if that doesn't make a difference, will attempt to realign. I'll keep you posted.

I will take pics this weekend and post, originally wanted to wait until I got different wheels but that may be a long wait. So I'll post what I got.

If pushing the "open" top button multiple times does not work, you may want to manually push the release mechanism on the latch within the tonneau cover. I'm not sure if this is accessible from within the car, but if so, it looks like there is a release and from that point you can press the button to open the top.

I have no access to that part of the latch while the top is in the up position. I had just gotten the car back again from getting a body kit installed. Unfortunately I do not have time to work on the car or take to a dealership for a resolution as I am due to go overseas for 6 weeks.

Here are some pics of the Seibon carbon fiber trunk and tonneau cover. Better pics to include the CF hood will be forthcoming:

I had first seen the carbon fiber items in import tuner mag, can't remember what month though. Seibon does have pics on their website.
