Default Track Roadster Weght Reduction

Just wanted to share some news. Stripped the top, door windows, tonneau motors, and a bunch of other stuff.

Swapping the fixed bucket Brides for the OEM's saved a **** ton of weight towards the front.

Dry weight of around 2950 pounds

I'll keep you posted. Not honestly sure where I'm going to strip more weight.

Next plan is:
Carbon Fiber Doors
Carbon Fiber Tonneau

Both of those things a freakin heavy. Unnecessarily so...

I want a light car. But you can eat it if you think my radio is coming out lol. I'm getting a new weight slip in 2 weeks when I can legally drive it on the road again lol.

Since 65% of the weight was removed from the rear half, I'm very curious to see how this new balance will effect things.

I havent driven it really except about 200 meters.

great work man, i'm in the middle of stripping out my coupe, down to 3058lbs with all fluids, but with out me in it. And i've barely got to work yet.

Are you planning on removing the speaker bar and the glove box/sub box?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to remove it, possibly drilling out the spot welds to keep it clean.

keep up the good work man, weight reduction is key.

Yeah I'll eventually due that and yeah that probably will be the cleanest way. I'm procrastinating so I can enjoy some tunes for a bit.

Nice work sounds very interesting. I am curious to see how the new weight savings work out for you. So now your full time top down

What are you going to do with all the top motor assembly and top?

Is that an OEM Trunk? I think the best savings for me was going to the CF trunk. I never realized how heavy it was until the CF one went in. I wonder if you would be able to remove the top of the tonneau cover and replace it with the Mastergrade overlay.

Damn- my ZR came in at 3850 Full Wet Weight

The tonneau is heavy as ****!!!!

I really want a cf one. I thought about trying just the overlay and seeing if i could make that work. guess i've got some thinking to do. doors are next on the list, i want to take some weight from the front area a bit more.

and I'm actually just under 3000 pounds dry weight.

Damn, that has to be the lightest roadster to date. I'm assuming you got rid of the cats as well. Those bastards are pretty heavy.

I want LMGT4 or CE28N wheels to bring the weight down. I just put my BBK on. The whole kit mite way 10 pounds more than OEM. Definitly a worth while weight increase for the performance.

Cats are out. Had High Flows in but not I have APS 3.5" test pipes

I'm either going to get a custom 3" y pipe made or buy the XYZ pipe with resonator to keep the noise down. That coupled with a 3" single exhaust. Probably whichever is cheapest to be honest. Apex'i is the cheapest so far.

I've been pondering a fuel cell in the trunk to distribute the weight better. This will of course RAISE the center of gravity... Any opinions?

Yeah. Here is how it is currently looking. 8-12 Gallon Fuel Cell in Trunk

Battery rerouted and hidden under the tonneau.

Any opinions?

I'm curious why you went with a roadster if you are so adamant about weight reduction. Couldn't you have bought the base coupe and stripped it a lot cheaper and ended at a lower weight and not had the loopholes with roadsters for SCCA and/or NASA and had a top on the car for inclement weather? Don't get me wrong, I have a ZR and I love it, but I don't give a damn about the weight. My car is probably the heaviest Z on this forum, but I knew that a roadster was not the way to go if I was going to worry about weight.

Yeah, I wasn't quite as into drifting and the other motorsports when I got it. I knew I wanted a Z. And I had never owned a drop top so that pretty much made up my mind for me. I love the top down and plan to cage it and leave it as such. Yes, I can't drive as often but it's still worth it. When I REALLY look back, there are a LOT of things I would have done differently. But I have no regrets. I love my car.

I see. I can definitely feel you on that. My car has been in the shop since December 11th...wait for it...wait for it...2007! Of course, I've had some time with it, but it keeps going back in for fixes, additions, or repairs. I definitely would have done some things differently, but I love it nonetheless.

Good Luck...but I think you are going to have problems with all of that weight removed from the rear....It's going to affect the maneuverability.
