Would You Buy A Wrecked ZR?
I'm in the market for a ZR and have found one at a great price with one catch....it's been wrecked. It's an 06' GT with all the options including navi for 20k. It has a little over 30k miles and looks to be in excellent condition. The carfax report reveals the following about the accident and I assume no more info is available:
New Jersey
Police Report
Case # 1499 Accident reported
in Monmouth County
It hit another motor vehicle
Left side primarily damaged
CARFAX began reporting this information on 12/22/2008.
The car is FAR, FAR away from me so I can't view it before purchase. It is for sale by a reputable dealer who took the car as a trade. Should I be scared of this car? Should I get an inspection or just run like hell? Can I trust the dealer to be honest and complete a thorough inspection on the car without paying an outside inspector? Obviously a great deal on a problem car isn't such a great deal at all.
My 2nd option- an 06' ZR Touring without the navi, brembos, etc. This one has only 14k miles but they are offering 1k less for my trade and it's priced at 21k. There is a big difference in price, but less worry of possible "issues". All said, this car would cost me $2,454 more than the wrecked one.
What would you do?

Option #2. Negotiate a little more. I think the dealer still has room to go.
There's something to be said for having a clean car clear of bad history. You'll just feel better about the car.
As the the other one, you'll spend years suspecting every thing wrong to be related to the accident.

Phreakdout, thanks for the advice. I think I'm leaning that direction as well. Both dealers won't move at all on their prices and they are the lowest online for a ZR (06 or newer)... I've already walked away from 2 deals because the dealers weren't willing to negotiate so I am prepared to do it again if need be.
Gag83, I read a few posts on the forums and expected a few flames about the ZR. So thanks for flaming the car... very original and helpful.

NP, good luck on the deal. As for walking from the negotiations, I've tried this a few times and it works. I was buying a Toyota Solara a few years back for a company car. The dealer wouldn't come down on his price any further. (I think I hit the minimum commission that he'd take.)
So I asked them to sell me the TRD springs at cost and include the installation and alignment. Bam! That worked. It didn't come out of the sales guy's commission and GM was OK with is as the dealership didn't lose on the deal. (Their shop was pretty empty anyway so they had idle mechanics.)
So look into something else they can offer besides a lower price. Ask for it at cost. (Usually 50-60% of MSRP)

You can find a better deal man by far.LOOK around look at private then resale value and think about what someone would probably owe about the time you would buy.I'd say two thousand less then private sale.I looked all over and found my G35 on craigslist.I PM'd everyone and got my 2003 G35 2 dr 6spd black leather navi brembos for 15,000 last Oct.It can be done someone is really needing to sell. Its up to you to find them.Don't listen to the O its a RARE combo with the 350z or G35.Theres nothing rare about these cars.Autos sells less then 6spds as much as 2 thousand cheaper from what I see.Mileage go's in increments 20 or less 40 or less 60 or less 100,XXX less 150,XXX anything over 150,XXX miles is all the same priceing damn near.
Is funny how you think they are "hideous" and yet you go into the ZR section of the forum to participate...
in any case... it is a matter of taste. I had both at the same time. I ended up selling the coupe because the ZR was way more fun to drive...
opinions are like a$$holes... everyone has one... also, everything is in the eye of the beholder... you park the Z and park the ZR next to it and see what happens...
back to the question: if I was to choose between those options I will go with #2. Pay the extra cash and have a car on which you will not get some hidden surprise....

i love my zr but saw this yesterday maybe u would like maybe not http://www.gzcon.org/zforum/showthread.php?t=2636
I'm the exact opposite. If I'm going to spend this much on a car, it better be a convertible. Nothing compares to driving a vert around in the summer. This is the first car I've ever just taken out for a drive with nowhere to go.
Regardless of the year, or whether it is a vert or not, I'm not sure about buying a wrecked car. I'd go with #2.
