Default Modify top to make it quieter?

So I was installing some Infinity Reference components in my ZR the other day, and as I was installing some eDead, I got to thinking about the top noise. I used to have a Jaguar XK8 convertible which was dead quiet with the top up - almost as quiet as the coupe version. That top had a liner so you couldn't see all the mechanical stuff, and I'm assuming it also had some type of sound-deadening material inside the liner. I was thinking it might be possible to do something similar with the ZR's top, but I'm not sure what effect that might have on the folding mechanism.

Has anyone tried to make their top quieter, or put a liner in? Does anybody think this is a bad idea?

You might have to be the first guinea pig and let us all know how it turns out ...

Compared to my old S2000 the ZR is super quiet. I think its great and not very loud. Its a convertible you can expect a little noise. I think its a great design though.

This is my 4th vert, so I know a little about vert noise - I'm not saying the ZR is too loud, I was just thinking I might be able to make it quieter.

-djb <-- if someone wants to make the Z faster, I don't tell them it's already fast enough

Default quiet top?

I haven't seen any replies on this and I was wondering as well. I drive a lot for my occupation and My wifes car is super quiet. But she has a Lexus SC430 with the convertable hard top. I love my Z, but a little quieter would be nice.

Just my my opinion but any extra liner would probably cause issues with the top folding all the way into the car. That seems to be one of the most common problems with the ZR.

The 370 ZR top seems a lot nicer - has a liner - tho I haven't taken a test drive to check the noise.

I guess you don't have much input on the original post.

Yes, I agree. I test drove several S2000's before I purchased my ZR. That was the only car that was quieter with the top down on the highway vs top up. It was real loud with the top up. The 350Z and the BMW Z4M were very similar in noise and were the quietest that I test drove, BMW was a lot faster though. Miata and Boxster were in between in noise.

Not to hijack but this thread is heading nowhere.
