You guys thinking of lighting up your windscreen?
The install is very simple. I wrote the initial install instructions and Mac is in the process of cleaning them up and asking for more/different pictures. Most of the install is done in the roof compartment. In fact, if you have small hands, you might be able to mount them without removing the headrests. It would be a little tough though. The headrests come off pretty easy, you just have to be patient. I've had mine off about 3 times now. The headrest is the hardest part, the rest is a piece of cake.
Just to answer a previous question, I'm using the "starphire" type glass in mine that has been tempered. It is VERY clear and shows up the frosted vinyl Z emblem VERY well. I think Mac's problem is that he can't legally sell that glass to you guys. It has to be safety glass which he is having a hard time getting. I'm sure he will figure out a way, just give him some time.
If I get a chance I'll try to take some more pictures.

If anyone is interested in sourcing their own glass, I'll gladly sell the kit to them without it. At the moment, I can't find a source for safety glass, so I'm not advertsing the setup.
I mean when you're driving. I was looking at the rear view mirror and the top of the windscreen is right through the middle, the way I sit.
I was wondering if it was distracting with the top of the glass lit up. Are you always looking at a line of light reflecting in your eyes?

The lighted windscreen is not distracting to me, but I look over the glass typically. I'm 6' tall and the top of the screen is usually low in the mirror. The line of light has not been a problem for me at all. You also have to remember that at night the rear view mirror darkens. Therefore, the light shinning in the mirror is dull. The LED is bright, but not compared to a headlight!
Hope that answers your question.

Mike,
I was wondering where you got your glass and who put the Z sketch on it. I understand that Mac can't sell use the "starphire" type glass for legal purposes, but I wouldn't mind using that type of glass at all. If I can get that glass like Mike got, then Mac I will buy a kit from you.
Thanks,
Mike

I just went to a local glass company and asked for some super clear glass to replace the rear windscreen with. I showed him the glass windscreen in the car. All he said was that it needed to be tempered. $75 later I had tempered "starphire" or some such brand name glass in my car. I had a friend at www.streetartusa.com make an emblem out of frosted vinyl for $5 using a dxf file that I sent him of the Z emblem. He said he would sell them to anyone that wanted one for $5. Just call or email and tell them I sent you. He does custom work all the time so if you have some other design in mind, I'm sure he could do it.
By the way, etching the same emblem was going to cost me $100+ and they couldn't guarentee that they wouldn't break the glass. I think the frosted vinyl looks great and I can change the design when I get tired of it!

I don't have a roadster , but I'm thinking this might be something I could incorporate into a custom stereo install or something such as a lighted amp rack. How much would the kit be without the glass?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the info Mike. I am going to check into getting a piece of glass this weekend. I will contact your friend fot the Z emblem. Thanks again.
Mac, do you have any kits ready for sale (minus the glass)?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike, I haven't attempted to slice and dice a project box for this one yet, but other than that it's ready. The instructions manual is only finished for the Footwell Lights, but essentially everything in it is the same (programming mode, demo mode, etc.). If you're truly ready for it, I could probably send one out in a few days.
Cole, the kits are $140 shipped anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. If you intend to put this on a stereo setup, I would suggest the code for the Footwell Lights as opposed to the Windscreen Lights. With the Footwell Lights code, you'll get the ability to fade out the lights, which might prove useful/cool in certain installs.
I have enough components for about 10 boxes right now, and I only need to order more buttons for another 15.

Hey Mike,
What is your friend's name and email address from www.streetartusa.com? I am going to email him and see if he can sell me the same Z emblem that he did for you.
Thanks for your help,
Mike W

I partially put together 9 control boxes last night, and I'll be finishing them up today. It will take me another couple of days to put together the LED strings (for both the Footwell and Windscreen Lights), so I will have a few for sale at that point.
My friends name is Preston. He owns the company. His email is preston@streetartusa.com or just go to the contact link on his web site.

OK, I have 9 prototype kits ready for sale, I need to know who is interested in them (no need for the people who have already PM'ed me to say anything else). Still have some minor wiring to do, but the kits should start to ship by Monday (possible this Friday). Windscreen kits receive priority over Footwell kits as there is no silicone drying time necessary. Please remember, these are prototypes, not production kits...I still warranty my work, but with prototype kits you don't receive fancy-schmancy injection-molded cases (just standard project boxes cut by hand).
So, please post IN THIS THREAD (no PMs, please) if you want one of these kits. PayPal is the currently preferred method of payment. Payment details will be provided by PM to interested parties.
EDIT: I forgot to mention...the kits will not be provided with replacement glass screens. I've had difficulty lately sourcing the necessary safety glass, so until I'm able to do so, all kits will be provided sans glass. Mike may be able to source glass for everyone, but that will be up to him. Again, price is $140 shipped.
