Question Purchasing a replacement OEM Top.

Have any of you purchased a replacement convertable top for your roadster? I have heard that you should stick with OEM, but local Nissan dealers want as nuch as $2100 for the replacement top..Uninstalled! Is there a reliable online source that sells OEM replacement tops at a good price? What about any other necessary hardware needed when replacing the top (i.e. fasteners, clips, etc.)?

There is this custom shop that said they would replace the top with OEM for $1,150 for the top and labor. They said they could get an aftermarket cloth top for $1,400 with labor.

Thanks, but unfortunately I live in SC so NJ is too far away.

2100 is way too high. You can order an OEM top online for about 1100-1200 bucks. I have read some pretty good things about aftermarket tops too.

Mine is due to be replaced soon so keep us posted of your choice and how it turns out

I've been looking around as well, and I've seen some with OEM material as low as $470, uninstalled. I can't imagine the installation would be really hard, just tedious...

Anyone try out one of those tops from the ebay seller? If they would hold up I would be interested too.

They should be every bit as good as the OEM, if not better I would think

i got the topsonline cloth top on ebay for $539. shipment was some delay for some bs reason... received in about 2-1/2 weeks. i like the cloth better than the factory vinyl. looks better + feels better but supposedly the factory vinyl had more elasticity.

jtang- was there any issues with clothtop? If it works great but isn't as elastic as the OEM I wonder if this could cause ripping issues later on.

Was it a nice dark black? That is a really good price! How much was the install?

Looks great! Is that the one off of topsonline the stayfast cloth? Did you install or have professional install? What was the cost on install if you don't mind me asking.

i got the topsonline aftermarket stayfast cloth. the color IS just as dark black as the OEM. supposedly not as stretchy as the original but honestly the original started drooping eventually as if the glass was too heavy for the top. i've only had the new top for 1-1/2 mo so i don't know if this one will do the same. fyi: topsonline stayfast cloth top offers 5 year warranty.

My OEM top ripped and not at the seams, all that stretching just wore it out i guess. brother installed it for me free! =P... but he is willing to do it for you for $300. ken i'm only about 1600 miles away, in the zroadster should be fun.

jon: i took pics in daylight for ya but my work has photobucket blocked so i can't post but will do it when i get a chance at home. i have a thread with pics that were taken in the garage.

hope this helps people.

Haha dang if you only you lived closer! I would happily pay 300 for an install. You can't beat that 5 year warranty. As long as the rips are at the seams. I believe if it rips anywhere else they won't cover it. That is my only worry.

A lady at work bought a top for her miata. The shop was putting it on and it ripped just trying to install it. The rip was not at the seems so i guess she had a heck of a time with the warranty.

I think that top looks excellent though and is worth a try, I bet if anything happens you could always have the installer call them or work something out the seller has been very responsive with emails so far.

Finally replaced my top with Haartz top. Stayfast Material. Total cost installed was $1850. Looks good, however bottom rear seal fails to tightly seal against body when closed. About 1/8 inch gap. Installer says that as the top stretches it will be fine, but I am doubtful. Also says that the top is tight due to cold weather and will eventually loosen. Your thoughts?

Who was it that did the install for you? I'm no expert on top materials, but I would think that the stayfast cloth would be a little more springy and would stretch more than the twillweave.

Just curious, is there any difference in the cabin sound?
