got a 350zr from auction, problems with the top??
Hi, new to the 350zr but not to the Zs, had 2 350z and the 370z that i sold recently.
Picked up this 2004 350zr at the auction with my cousin that has a dealer and the car arrived this week, its in good condition, the engine sounds nice and it has an aftermarket exhaust.
the problems are with the top, i press the brake pedal and hit the open or close and all i hear its something in the back clicking but the top doesnt move, my cousin told me that maybe because its missing the ebrake handle thats why its not operating correctly, something with having the ebrake on and the brake at the same time to make it work, but i dont know if that's true or not
any tips on what to tackle, i cant drive the car as it is because the top its not even close completely
any help!!!!
also what to where is the Main relay of the top located at, pics would help, i dont have the manual or the plastic pieces to check on the fuses

Thanks for the replies...... LOL
I guess I have to explain my situation before I get any help
I bought the 350zr to fix, not to be my daily driver or my toy, not to impress my friends or women, i bought it to fix it and sell it in the future ( has a rebuilt title, of course)
I plan to buy 3 or 4 cars a year with my cousin's dealer license and use it for few months and then sell it at minimal cost (I.E if my cost is $9000 i'll sell it for that but i would have drove it for few months basically for free)
I have 2 others cars in my house which are the DD for me and my wife so the 350zr wont be my ONLY car
now that that's out in the air, can I get any help??
Thanks in advance

Are you releasing the latch on top over the mirror?
Mine is a MT. You must put the car in neutral, foot on the brake, release the latch, and hold the button down (with your foot still on the brake) until the top fully opens/closes.

The ebrake would not affect the top.
The controller resides under the passenger seat.
If the lid motor is not operating nothing else will work.
You may need to try to manually open the lid and check the motors.

I have a pdf file of the '06 service manual for operating the top manually. I don't know if it works the same as the '04, but if you want it I can email it to you. Just PM me your email address.

There are 2 release tabs for the cover in the trunk, left and right
The tops should be the same for most years.
I have the 04 and 06 roadsters and they look identical in most respects.

on the s2000 the ebrake has to be pulled up and engaged. makes sense that it would have to be. matter of fact im going to guess it does, otherwise, someone could drive the car at 80MPH with their foot lightly on the brake, and the top could still be put up or down. idk bout zr though

from the service manual...
CONDITIONS FOR OPERATION
Operation is available when all of the conditions below are satisfied.
Ignition switch is ON.
The brake pedal is ON.
Vehicle speed is 4 km/h (2 MPH) or less.
Battery voltage is approximately 10 V or more.
CAUTION:
Run the engine when operating or inspecting the soft top to prevent battery dies.

I would say try closing the top with the switch and then "help" it close manually while the motor is clicking.
