Vandalism or Normal Wear?
^ +1 to this...i've seen these threads around too
Also, this might just be my thoughts, but if it was vandalism, what stopped the person from slicing the whole top? besides just trying to be a pain...

If it was vandalism, he doesn't have unlimited access to my car to carve it up at will. He would have had to do it quickly and stealthily.

It's actually not that much of a reach considering the employee and what's been going down. Agreed that there's no way to prove it. I was just looking for opinions based on the pic. It appears that there are a few similar looking pics posted previously.
If you're thinking about claiming it on insurance, make sure your story is covered by comprehensive. If you say it happened in your driveway, make sure it doesn't have to be claimed on the homeowner's policy.
Or you could be an honest person and just get it fixed because that tear is normal. Mine happened in the same spot. I found someone with a wrecked roadster and bought their whole top assembly. (Motors and all for $500) I replaced it in less than 30 minutes.

The close up view of your photo clearly shows the tear edges to be worn and frayed from the inside out. The shape and weight of the rear window puts a lot of stretching and stress on the fabric by the four corners of the window when the top is folded down.
Getting a replacement top installed is expensive as hell. The deductible on most policy’s comprehensive coverage is usually only a couple of hundred dollars. I guess I have a lower sense of moral standards than the average member of this forum, because if I could play dumb and get this past the insurance adjuster, I surely would. Unfortunately, most adjusters will spot this as a case of ‘wear and tear’ and not vandalism.
Luckily for you, I’m devilishly good with sharp, jagged implements. A few seconds alone with your car and I could convert that gash into a clear-cut case of insurance coverage eligibility. Just leave the garage door unlocked tonight and the money in the usual spot.

I have the same exact rip in the same exact spot. I was thinking the same thing about someone vandalizing my car, at one point I even thought it was the birds pecking at it since they love to crap on my car. WTF was I thinking
!? lmao!. It started off small and I noticed it was spreading so I came to the conclusion it was caused by the weight of the rear windshield and wind passing through it as I drove with the windows down.

If I were a P'd off employee and wanted to vandalize your car, I would've sliced that top from end to end. I don't think someone would take the risk to only slice a 2 1/2 inch piece...
