Default Removing my top permanently

My 04 Roadster had a torn top when I bought it and from day one I said it would be removed before I put any money into it. How hard is it to remove the entire top assembly? The top is put up for the next 4 months but when I tried to lower it the back portion folded up, seats and windows moved, but the lid only goes up a third of the way and everything stops. Tried pushing on it and retrying it but it stops like the power just gets turned off. I would love to remove the top and all it's weight since I never really use it and I have an Emergency tarp and cover just in case. I may get the hardtop next year but the car is only driven on nice days as a toy, 3000 miles a year. I tried searching but get hundreds of matches that have not answered my question. I appreciate all help. Losing 130 pounds for something I dont need is appealing but if I can only get it back down 1 last time I will be happy.

I have removed mine - not too bad. Need at least one other person to help.

Take a look at this PDF.

Thanks scruggyj. Unfortunately I was unable to open the pdf. Is it me or my mac computer perhaps? Thanks alot for the info. I've wanted to remove the top for some time now. Being a garage queen the weight loss is appealing.

I just was able to open the top with a little help pulling up the cover. I may just leave it put but If I get spare time I will remove it next year. Thanks for the tips.
