Default Keeping top in good shape...

I ordered some Aerospace 303 Protectant today. Hoping to keep the top in the good shape it's in. Learned about this stuff here in the forum. Anyone else having good luck with it?

I've been using 303 for several years - really happy with the results.

Water beads up after treatment; reapply every few weeks .

303 Aerospace Protectant works great on the factory vinyl top. If your top has been replaced, be sure it’s a vinyl and not a fabric style top, as the fabric ones need a totally different product. Before using the Protectant clean the top thoroughly. There are several proper top cleaners on the market that will clean and prepare the top. These work with the protectant in keeping the top a nice rich black color and prevent fading. Since you have some 303 Aerospace, stop at an auto supply place and pick up some of the excellent 303 top cleaner (it’s the same cleaner product for both styles of top). Use a soft brush with the cleaner to dislodge all the crap and oxidized vinyl from the grain pattern in the top.

Thanks for the advice all. The top has been scrubbed and cleaned. Even vacuumed with an industrial strength vacuum. The top looks OEM, but I'll make sure it's vinyl first before I apply the protectant.

I have had good results with 303 and Raggtop. I found the 303 in the boating department at Cabela's. Bass Pro may have it as well.

Slyguy, it’s best not to over-scrub the top with any abrasives or harsh soap products as these can dry out the vinyl coating. If you live in an area with hot unrelenting sun all day this can drastically shorten the life of the top. The special cleaners supplied by companies like 303, Ragtop, etc have no drying soaps and work with, and help the protectant bond to the top. Here in Canada where the sun is less harsh I have talked to lots of convert owners with 10 to 15 year old tops that are still in perfect shape. These cars are garage kept and usually the tops get a good cleaning and treatment of protrctant every 6 months or so. This is what I followed with my Z and after 10 years the top still looked like new.

As Blooster said, the top (just like wax on your paint work) will need redoing when water fails to bead up.

Kasemodz, the two leading products for caring for this type of top are RagTop and 303. RagTop packages a kit especially formulated for your type of top, and 303 have product information to guide on which products to use. Cloth tops can pick up stains and mildew etc. so be sure to follow the instructions completely to prevent this.

I noticed the other day when washing my ZR that the top was absorbing all of the water. Looked like laundry in a washer the way water was pooling in a thin layer on the top. Water doesn't run off of this top. It's absorbed as it's applied. It's definitely not the OEM vinyl top. Looks like that's been replaced with a canvas/fiber top.

I returned the 303 for vinyl tops. I'm looking at RaggTopp and 303 for canvas top cleaner and protectant. I'm trying to make sure it's cleaned properly and then protected from the harsh So. Cal desert sun arriving here shortly. I'll keep you updated...

I use the 303 cleaner and protectant for fabric tops. It's a beautiful thing to see the water neatly bead up and then fly off as you're driving.
