Most of the shops I've worked at that weren't production would rinse the dirt off with water, then use a blow gun to dry it off. Then use the Final Inspection or Hand Glaze with a micro fiber cloth to wipe it down.
I personally don't really think a wash mitten is bad for it as long as you take the extra precautions to keep it super clean along with the shammy also. If I owned one I'd probably use the mitten/shammy. Then lightly buff with rubbing compound any scratches I seen then machine polish the whole car, and finish with the hand glaze or final inspection. That is the reason why I don't own one.

I'm glad it's a 2nd car otherwise I'd be on a real roller coaster ride.
Happy after driving it, pissed off when I see how dirty it is!
