People who should know in my area of Philly say I will get the best bass response if I put a sub box in the trunk instead of behind the seats of my roadster. Has anyone tried it both ways?

Generally the trunk is a great place for a sub because of the large volume of air. In the 350ZR you may find that the sound is vastly different when the top is up or down. The top stores in front of the trunk and would insulate the sound of the sub in the trunk, plus when the top is down, the additional noise would also tend to obscure the sounds of the sub.

I have two JL Audio 10" subs in the trunk of mine, and they produce plenty of bass. I plan on putting them behind the seats later on, but for now, they sound fantastic. I find that having the top up or down makes little difference; subs are more for "feel" then sound.

I wanna put a sub in the stock location on my roadster. Anyone here have any experience with that. I've already been through all the posts in the A/V section.

There is so much metal and stuff between your trunk and the cabin of the car that much of your bass will be filtered out, and there will be lots of rattles. It is true that there is better sound when they are in a trunk, or have something to bounce the sound off of. I just had a custom install in my roadster where the car looks stock, but when you take off the Bose screen, there is no sub in the stock location. Rather, I had a custome fiberglass box made inside the area between the truck and the cabin. The sound then bounces off the walls in there acting like a trunk, and produces a lot more bass then just putting one in the stock location and letting it fire into the back of your seat. The result is more sound, better/cleaner sound, a stock look (if you want it to look that way) and no truck space is lost. Hope this helps, I am VERY happy with the set up.
