Question Ordering time

I'm curious. We dealt with the dealership to order our Z back in March. Supposively the order paperwor was faxed into Nissan on the 26th of March. I called Nissan directly yesterday to find out if it was possible to check the status of the car (now being almost 6 weeks since the order was placed). The rep from Nissan told me that the order missed May production and most likely won't be built until June.

The first question I have is, does this sound reasonable? Shouldn't the car have been produced in May. I suppose it depends on the number of orders in, right?

Secondly, any inputs out there for those of you who ordered their cars as to what I should expect both time wise as well as updates from Nissan on the status of my order. Many other companies update their customers on the ststus of their car during the production phase. Does Nissan do this?

Third, how will I know when production is done and how much time should I expect for the car to make it stateside (Seattle)?

Lastly, does the anticipation frustration go away anytime soon!?!?!?

Obviously these are questions the dealership hasn't been able to answer so I am seeking hel from you all. Hopefully, you can provide some type of insight.

Thanks, and Z you later!!

I work for Toyota not Nissa, but Toyota decide they'll build X many units with each pacakge, color, and equipement.

If someone selected a color combo that exceeds supply then going to wait.

If someone selected a color combo, options package that doesn't exceed supply then it should work.

It's my understanding that dealers place their "orders," I use this term loosely, at the beginning of the month. It sounds like for whatever reason, the dealer missed the order and placed it the following month.

Do yourself a favor and use Nissanusa.com to search for cars around your area that match your specs. If your dealer had a website that includes their inventory, check it every day. Even though the one I ordered was due to arrive in March, one rolled in at the end of January. Literally, within hours of it being posted, it was mine.

I'm starting week 14. The dealer has no clue when and if the car ever comes in!

Do you know about the production problems?

Because of the suspension problem mainly and also the convertible top problems, the production was changed in January from the Oppma plant to the Tochigi plant (Infiniti plant) which is considered the best plant and also employee wise.

There is also a shortage of roadsters being delivered to all dealers because of the change of production sites.

Now we have a case of Supply vs. Demand!
Who knows, they might sell my car to someone else???

If it dosen't arrive by the end of June, then I'll wait for the 05's.

Good Luck!

theSmooth Dome...That is a big list. Norhern Ohio must have delivery problems? I just don't know. I ordered a Super Black on black Touring Roadster. Since I waited this long I just want to make sure I'm getting the car with the new suspension and the new top with the double stiching. The built date of Feb. this year. Thanks for the info!

I have ordered my SS touring, 6m, 18" wheels and Nav back in Dec 27th. Called dealer last week and he said I should get it by next month;(

no offense to the list....but I told the dealer "it's not a freakin Maserati, it's a damn Nissan !!!"

He is providing me with an order # tomorrow. As I have a motorcycle for my adreniline rush, I may cancel it and order a 2005. I don't want to get a car that's almost a year old.

Does anyone know when the 2005 350z will be announced and if anything is changing? Thanks !

Not sure about what offense should be taken about the list. those are what's in stock right now. Seems as if other dealers can't get roadsters regularly. You're right, they're not Masarati's, but if supply sucks and demand is high....well...you know. As for the 2005s, the rumor is that pre-orders will be taken beginning in August.

O.k. Coming from the high, and now for the low. I received a call from Nissanusa and I was told that my car was to be delivered early August :-(. So what was an 8-10 week wait now just jumped up to 18-20.

Here's a question. How much does it add to the cost for a dealer to find another car already in the states and have it delivered? Would it be worth having that done (as long as I could find a car to my specs) and have the order into Nissan cancelled?

What a difficult decision. I hate to cancel an order, but the wait is incredibly hard especially with summer now here. Let me know what you guys think....

I am not sure why you guys have to wait months and months for a car. The dealer right around the corner from me has 18 roadsters alone.

the only one he didnt have was a PPW It took him 3 weeks to get me one.

he told me it would arrive on 5/14/04 I came in on 5/13/04. I picked it up as it came off the truck.

Your best bet it to go to www.nissanusa.com and build the car you want then do a dealer search in your area for the one you want. Chances are you can find the car you want and only a few miles from home.

Ghost,
The reason why I am waiting so long is that I am having the car built. I choose to have one built for me knowing that I was the only one to ever have driven it. Even if I had purchased a car with less than 100 miles from a dealer, I would not know what kind of miles those were. I can image most people who test drive the car, drive it pretty hard because they want to see the performance of it.

Call it ****, but ordering was my way of ensuring the car is built to my specs, and ensures it hasn't been abused prior to me driving it.

I talked again with my dealer yesterday. He is looking into whether or not there are any cars to my specs in the Great Lakes area. I know of a couple in Oceanside that I could always have delivered here to Seattle area. I'll talk with him on Monday, but I have a feeling knowing me, I'll wait it out until August.

you wont be the only one to drive your car.

one porter, one tech, one sales person will end up driving your car a bit.
I have known dealers to let customers test drive sold cars. I would NEVER do it at my dealership.

Orionflyer20...I feel exactly the same way as you. I had the dealer write on my contract that the car has to have less than 30 miles. Also I had a deal with $1,800.00 off the MSRP and they also threw in 2 black pearl Z plate holders with a appox. value of $100.00. This was 1-29-04.

Its been 16 weeks.....Now they are telling me that all orders out of Japan were cancelled!! I think its a bunch of BS.

Who want's to buy a car at MSRP. I sure don't. On the flip side maybe with all the problems with tire feathering and etc. I'm better off waiting until the 05's.

I'll buy the car wholesale like I wanted to do in the first place back in January. The cost of flat truck delivery in January was between .60 to .80 per mile.

I had the chance to buy at $400.00 over the INVOICE price!

I also talked to Consumer Affairs in USA, UK and directly to Japan. Everyone passed the BUCK!!!!

I also posted my problem in the Nissan category of My350Z.Com

I feel like I'm getting screwed royal.

There's no reason that an ordered car should have more than 5 miles on the odometer when you pick it up. Most dealers I have seen have a couple of test drive Z's lined up and the rest they don't let be test driven.

theSmoothDome...I absolutely agree with you.

Also I want to add to my previous statement that if I'm going to spend appox. $39,000.00 including tax. That is alotta MONEY. I want what I want!!

the color of my choice, inside and out...the size of wheels...Touring Roadster model...plus a few small extras...I don't want and need Navagation.

Also some of these dealers are getting thousands above MSRP!!
