Default 350Z convertible is a hardtop

At least that's what I think it is. Why? ZISME hasn't given us an answer yet right? Probably because if he said it was a hardtop convertible it might hurt potential sales right now. That's probably also why Nissan North America hasn't said anything as well, they don't want to touch current coupe sales. If it is i'm going to kick myself in the ***... Not only would a convertible be more rare (at 35,000 dollars starting) but it would also look like a coupe w/ top up if it was a hardtop.

I am always afraid of what would happen in a rollover accident. I saw a miata once and its top was crushed. I dont think anyone would have survived. The boxster and audi TT with its tubular rollover bars look out of place.

i think the chinese article is highly doubtful, wouldn't nissan slap his own mouth if he relases a hardtop Z?

IMHO it is impossible to store a hardtop into the z's hatch due to the fact that it has such a trunk.

I agree. Also I think a hardtop would add too much weight.

Well if Nissan is going to do a hardtop for the Micra C+C, then why would they not do one for the Z?

See this article from the Paris Auto Show in TopGear

This proves that you do not need a huge trunk for a hardtop convertable (ible?).

I saw the aftermath of an accident with a miata, upside-down, under the front of a city bus. I can only hope that anyone in the miata wasn't wearing their seatbelt, that is the only way that they might have had a chance.....

Nissan offered the Silvia Varietta with a convertible hardtop -- for $26K in Japan. So it's not inconceivable that they could offer a reasonably priced version for the Z.

Personally, I think it would be great. It would blow the SLK and SC430 out of the water performance-wise, for a fraction of the price...

the reason i don't think it's gonna be possible is the space how it will store the top, remember that the micra and silvia both has a big trunk, if they are going to put a hard top in then they have to redesign the whole car IMO~

Default A year from when?

Not that I feel all these rumors amount to much, but which date are you saying it was delayed a year from? The March '03 rumor? The coupe ship date?

I don't want to wait 2 years for this! It's really about time Nissan gave us some idea, nobody is going to want to wait forever. If they had said a year ago - they would have had a sale a year after it was released, but if I buy a new car because I got tired of waiting they lose that.
