Tapping into Antennae for XM Wireless
Anyone taken the radio out fo the dash? I want to know what the first steps are to removing it...I need to run a wire to the antennae input and don't want to break anything while doing it.
Thanks,
Jeff
Thanks,
Jeff
Remove the Trim Ring from the Shifter.
Pull that Pannel (With Climate controls and All) Up and Out.
Remove the two Screws from the Nav Cubbie Hole.
Remove the Two Screws from beneith the radio.
Lift Up and Off the center Dash Peice, Disconnect the Wire to the Guages.
Remove the 4 Screws that hold down the radio inside the dash.
Remove.
The Antena hides easily underneath the rear of the Tonnau cover on the body beam and gets great signal.
Good Luck.

Could you describe with more detail where you mounted the XM antenna in the roadster? Also, how did you route the wire?
I've got mine on the left corner of the dash, and it works fine 99% of the time. Looking for a better option.
Thanks a lot,

Ill take a picture and Post it up, In the mean time,
The Antenae is mounted on the Beam between the trunk and Tonnau cover. Under the rear ledge of the cover. There is about 2 inches of clearance under there and the cover does not touch it.
It then goes under the fabric inside the Convertible roof boot, and down through next to the glove box and through the trim molding under the doors.

I just had a XM Commander installed today in the rear of my 'nav hole'. Antenna is mounted on the little flat spot between the left and right defroster vents. Even though the manual says specifically not to mount the antenna inside the cabin, mine seems to get a good signal in general driving today.
If the wife hadn't hidden the digital camera, I'd post a pic but the install looks really nice in there and there wasn't much modification made to the NAV hole housing... I can take it out if needed in 10 years when I'm ready to sell the car.
$210 installed. Not bad.
Note: The shop that installed it also carried the Delphi SkyFi but swore off the Roady. Seems Delphi is having some problem with the Roady in import cars. The SkyFi requires alot more cutting of the NAV box so if you ever wanted to remove the system, you'd have to replace the entire box.
