$500 Rock - Windshield Hit!
Am very careful with my SB (all ops) baby. Drive defensively and always well behind any cars in front of my Z. But wife caught a $500 dollar rock from the opposite lane traffic on a Sunday morning which left a nice hit in my windshield which quickly grew a nine inch+ crack in no time! Car has no damage besides this in it's 4 months of loving care (I was passenger, gotta let her drive Z sometimes!). Wife felt bad, but it was no ones fault and I made absolutely no deal at all of it at the time (stuff happens), but man I sure can hate that it's there...(car is garage kept - always washed in 10 gallons of bottled water, polished constantly, not driven in rain if it can be avoided, etc. - you get the idea...)
When I bought my baby on 3/20/04 I knew that I had to accept a $500 dollar deductable to insure via Erie Insurance Group. Although we have an excellant record (clear) and have been with them for over 25 years, the $500 is their rule for any two seater sports cars (the plus side is full coverage insurance is only $693 a year for us - listed as pleasure - our 3rd Nissan). However, I was not thinking this no choice rule would also apply to windshields as they are normally a $50 dollar deductable. But as I found out today, I will be out $500 next Monday when I get my Nissan exact replacement windshield installed. As luck goes, my wife had her Pathfinder windshield hit as well in almost the same spot just 24 hours later, so we now have two to do (but the SUV will not even cost us $50 as they can fix this one without replacement so insurance pays the whole deal). Hope my Z is not a magnet for stray stones in the future, could get costly...oh well...
Still in love...

Ouch! Nice roaster and interior combo. I'm curious was this on 495/50? They have been doing alot of repavement and I have a couple of rock chips on mine. That is why I use my pickup truck on weekdays and the ZR on weekends. Hope to see you around in MD.

I was about a 1/2 hour behind her when she called on cell to tell me. Stopped and looked to see if someone spilled gravel there or something was amiss, but found nothing unusual. Guess those only two rocks on the road had her name on each of them!

Windshield from dealer is $800 - Molding & Labor additional.
Am having it done at D&S in Waldorf (they do/know Nissans),
whatever the cost above $500 is covered by my Insurance.

any windshield shop can replace it; it's not a difficult task by any means. and it really doesnt matter if it's oem glass, it's not going to be any better/worse than any other replacement windshield.

Are you SURE it's not going to be any better? I've got 10K miles on her and she's got tons of tiny chips all over the windshield. My friend's new SC430 has about 8K milesl, drives the same route to and from work, and has ZERO chips.
I'm convinced the OEM paint AND glass are extremely poor quality - I'm almost praying to get a crack in the windshield

I had a 1997 Pathfinder, got a chip, got a cheapo non-OEM replacement for $180. Was better than OEM, no windshield chips, cut down on wind noise believe it or not. YMMV.
And replace your windshield 1-2x a year - that's NUTS!

Re: $500 Rock - Windshield Hit!
Had the OEM windshield replaced yesterday.
Shop did a perfect job, looks like delivery day.
However, perhaps I should have put more emphasis on the $500 deductable point as that was the real point of why I posted about this at all. I was actually curious if you guys had to accept such a deductable from your insurance company. I have since discussed this with mine (Erie) and they will not budge, because the windshield on this car (2 seater high performance rating) is part of comprehensive which they will not break out seperately - like on my 01 Pathfinder which costs me $50 yesterday for an OEM windshield that was almost as expensive as the Z OEM deal (their logic of $50 vs $500 for glass breakage still escapes me, but that's their rules).
Anyway, that was the real point I was writing about, not the cost of OEM vs getting something done to fix it cheaper (as some have replied about). Not complaining about my company either as my full coverage is only costing me $693 a year, but I am curious if you guys had to take a similiar deal on your cars (Z is listed as our 3rd car) with your Insurance companies?
