Default 2005 ZR Roadsters With Nav Systems

Here's an interesting one for everyone. I just ordered a 2005 Touring Roadster from my dealer two weeks ago. Having the NAV system was an option I definitely wanted. As a matter of fact, I got all the available options except the 18-inch wheels because I was planning on upgrading them on my own.

About a week after they ordered my car, the dealer came back and told me the only way I can get the NAV system was to get the 18" wheels. I thought he was full of s**t and just trying to make extra money off me because the wheels are a $1,200 option.

After doing some research and talking with corporate Nissan I found out this is in fact true. The new brouchures coming out have an asterick next to the NAV system option and when you go down to read it says you must have the 18" wheels to get the NAV system. They also confirmed that the 04 and earlier models could get the NAV system with the 17" wheels.

Can anyone out there think of any logical explanation for this or is this just a way for Nissan to make more money off the car?

Sound like they are just trying to make more money to me. But I guess one other thing is it makes a more complete package of a ALL DECKED OUT Z. So there is that theory. Also it decreases the different ways you could get a Roadster. I know in Canada they only have a Performance Touring and Track versions. I don't know what they have in roadster thou.

If qirex is correct, then that's the explanation. Otherwise, I can't tie the two together,(other than $), for the life of me. p.s I have the 2004 ZTR w/ 18's and Nav. A bit costly, but I wanted ALL the toys. Rarely use it. Also, even though I would have liked to buy my wheels aftermarket, Believe it or not, Dealer replacement price for the 18s are $1438.00 EACH( no tires). The moral is, Take real care of the OEMs......

This is just a short in the dark, but maybe having different sized wheels then what the Nav system is calibrated for will throw off the accuracy of mileage predictions in the system? (Since adding an extra inch to the diameter of the wheel slightly does affect mileage readings).

I dont own a Z, so its just a guess
