Default nav system compartment door sticks

I have a 4.5 ZR Touring. The nav system compartment door sticks. I have to push the button 4 or 5 times for it to open.

I do not have the nav system, it is an empty compartment and I keep my cell phone ear piece in it.

Anyone else having this problem?

Is there a fix to it?

Thanks,
..paula

I also have a 2004 touring zr with navigation and my nav door would stick and eventually stopped opening altogether. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire door and I believe the motor also. That fixed it for a few months, but now it is slowly starting to stick again! But I don't know that my problem is the same as yours because you don't have a motorized door do you?

my 2004.5 has the navi display.
The door is sticking at the top middle

Pressing on the door at that point causes it to not bind with the dash.

It looks like they have a manufacturing problem here that is caused by the plastic dash swelling

I haven't had time to go complain. But I will.

the remedy is actually quite simple. all you have to do is press the button down fully and quickly release your finger from the button. if you press it in and slowly release it, then the latch will re-engage.

still it is dumb that you have to do it that way, but it is second nature for me now.

might be a different problem for you, but my method worked for me and my friend.

paula, post a reply if that did the trick for you. i am curious. btw, my friend and i dont have the nav system either.

I have had the problem of the NAV door sticking. It has not stuck in a while as it only seemed to happen on very hot days. I was told that the plastic swells a little and it caused the door to stick. When it did stick I just gave the door a little boost when it was raising and it would continue to open. After the weather cooled down the door would work properly again.

Take it in, there's a TSB for that. Mine had to have the Nav door replaced as it was not opening at all. It's all good now.
