Default Viper 5701 install questions

I just bought this alarm for my 2007 350z and was curious if I needed to buy any extra parts to have the windows go auto up or down, pop the trunk or the gas door. Any other useful features that I should make sure get installed? Thanks!

No, I'm having it installed next week but the guys never installed one on a 350z and said I needed extra parts. But since the car already has auto up and down windows and remote trunk pop my guyss is that it just needs to be wired in.

Default off the top of my head

there is a separate module for the windows. Just double check on viper.com and check the features for 5701

Thanks for all the quick replies. Hopefully someone who is a expert at alarm installs will chime in.

You don't need the extra window module to roll up/down the windows (and if you install that module, your windows will roll all the way down and all the way up everytime you open/close the door because of the way the windows respond to the door opening).

If you have your installer send an extended pulse to the lock wire (inside the driver door) it will roll the windows up. An extended pulse to the unlock wire will roll the windows down. This has to be done inside the door (connections at the BCM won't operate the windows).

Great, thanks! So this will allow me to lower the windows by pressing and holding the unlock like the keypad from the factory? What about the trunk release or popping the gas door? Thanks!

I tried to find out if holding the unlock button on your remote will send an extended pulse to the unlock wire, but I was unable to confirm. If not, you might have to wire the windows to an AUX channel (this is how I will be doing my Z whenever I get around to it...I hooked up everything except the windows up/down...i plan to have them roll up when I lock it, and roll down when I hit AUX 1).

To pop the gas door, just have the installer wire another AUX channel to the switch on the dash (just a ground pulse I believe...that's how I did mine). I doubt your installer will have a problem with that (or the trunk pop).

ProperID is correct the window up will have to be an aux channel because an extended lock pulse will trigger panic mode

An extended lock pulse won't trigger panic mode - that is the only way to raise the windows.

I believe your Viper has the "comfort closure" option that can be used to extend the lock pulse. This will work, but it will raise the windows every time you arm the car. If you want flexibility you need to use an AUX channel so they only go up when you want them to go up.

You can wire them through a relay so that when you arm it and hit AUX 2 the windows go up and when you disarm it and hit AUX 2 the windows go down - this seems to be the best way to maintain flexibility but not use a bunch of AUX channels (control the relay off the dome light output).

I believe what they meant was that holding down the Lock button will trigger the panic mode....not necessarily that the extended lock pulse will trigger it.

I like this idea...do you see any problem doing this same thing but using the Ground When Armed output to control the relay? (so if the system is armed, it will roll the windows up...if the system is disarmed, it will roll the windows down)

Actually, now that I think about it, your way would be the better option...it would reduce the chance that I would accidentally roll down my windows with my remote in my pocket (because it needs a sequence of buttons to be pushed)....nevermind my question. Now I just need to find someone locally with a Compustar Option Programmer to set my AUX 1 to more than a 0.5 sec pulse. There used to be a dealer in the next town over...might have to check and see if they still have that tool.

You can't use the gwa wire - at least not with a standard automotive relay - it will kill the battery. The cool thing about the dome light wire is it is only active for ~30 seconds after you disarm so current draw isn't a concern. This also does add to security making it less likely (especially with 1 - 2 mile range systems) that you will accidently lower the windows. Of course this would be extremely unlikely because you would have to disarm and then lower the windows.

If you came up with a solid state relay design you could use the gwa output.

Good point about the gwa wire and the battery drain....that didn't occur to me when I was thinking about this. I'm going to go ahead and use the dome light output (but not until I get access to that Compustar programmer...might have to bite the bullet and buy one).

I'm going in on Friday to get my alarm installed. My alarm does have the "comfort closure". I would like the windows to go up when the alarm is armed and would like the windows to either crack open or roll all the way down when the alarm is armed or disarmed. I'm hoping the install goes smoothly! Thanks everyone for the help!

I, personally, would tell the installer you want to inspect his work before he puts the car back together. Have him show you how he installed everything and make sure it looks nice. Also, I wouldn't drop the car off, I would stay there the entire time and keep an eye on it and the installers.

I would of loved to stay and watch, but they said it would take all day with two people working on it. The guys did not really care for the info that I provided for them from this forum and others. They said they have their own install help section.

Soooooo, after dropping my car off at 10am, I get a call at 6:45pm saying they ran into problems. They cannot get the doors to lock, did not get the remote start connected, did not install the siren, left finger prints ALL over my car and a pretty scratch from a screwdriver by my windshield conveniently located within all the fingerprints. They said they could not get to it till next Thursday or Friday. So after a polite meeting with the store manager, I got my install fee refunded to take to another store where the head installer has done plenty of 350Z's and got me in at 10am today, Saturday, and a gift card for my inconvenience.

Was not able to pick up my car tonight, but talked with the installer for almost 1/2 hour on the phone. He was very knowledgeable, hooked up my windows to go up and down, trunk pop, gas tank pop and remote start. He also ripped out all the other wiring from the other store and quoted, "They used lots of electrical tape" and rewired everything. I'm pretty stoked to pick up the car tomorrow morning!
