Default New Z Owner: Mod Advice.

I just recently purchased a 2003 silver 350z base, manual 6 speed. I am new to the site and hope this is the right place for the topic, so here it goes.

I am looking into trying to put some modifications in my car. I had the idea of starting with a JWT pop charger, since after 3 weeks of searching i seemed to find a good amount of positive feedback and best bang for buck if i were to stray away from stock intake. From there i would like to add a new cat-back exhaust since my state does no emissions testing (thank god) and from there possibly new wheels. And that is about as much as i can think of, I'm thinking of performance over ricy-look.

Main concern is i can't quite find an affordable yet worth while exhaust system (Full time student with 2 jobs so under 1k for each mod is great) and if anyone had positive suggestions that would be grand. As well as some new wheels, those will be pricey i know but still have yet to find a good set for the car that doesn't look ridiculous.

Also any suggestions on modifications to add in or ignore such as an intake or the exhaust would be great, just looking for some feedback and help, thanks!

Look in the private classifieds and your regional market place. Thats where I got my used HKS for under 1k. Works and sounds great. If you have a base get a LSD. The open diff sucks the fun out of the car. Go get a used VLSD. You can find them for under $400 easily.

Its OK. We have so many "must read" threads that it is next to impossible to find them all.

The key here is "goal" or where do you want to go? Are you going for a 3,200 pound drag racer or a audio-video street cruiser with carbon fiber stick-ons.

Yeah, I'm shootin for low price but not really wanting to turn my 350 into the honda civic with the ricy look to it. I was shootin for a new intake first, then wheels, then exhaust but after looking over my engine today i noticed both my serpentine belts were neglected replacement with past owner and a few other things so ill stick with my k&n filter replacement for now till i get some kinks worked out. Mainly just looking for performance.. not necessarily trying to trick the car out, just give it good sound and look. After reading a few threads ive sorta gone into direction of interior first then exterior... Apparently the bose stock systems bad and my sub goes in and out which is due to the amp i have found so first things first i guess, fix the problems before adding new stuff.

My advice if you are on a budget: Do mods that will help your car BREATHE better; thus theoretically giving you better gas mileage - Intake, filter, spacer. This will also give you some additional HP and if you want to have the cheapest most effective mod...get rid of weight.

Lol....that was a funny post. Anyhow, intake isn't going to do **** for you, Exhaust isn't going to do much of anything for you. They are pretty good at making your car sound faster. If I was you I would get gears, high flow cats, tune, suspension and nice wheels. Make sure you do your research on offsets please so your wheels aren't 5 inches tucked under your fenders. Anyhow, that is my recommendation from a veteran forum member.
