The database is large.. and alot of people are using the search function that uses alot of resources... during peak times the server will get bogged down from time to time

You know that no one uses the SEARCH function. That is why there is such a large influx of REPOSTS!

Yes I found out what the problem is, its a posts that have over 1000 replies and multiple people hitting it at the same time, the query eats up some major resource.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the "War on Newbism" thread, which has now been deleted.

Maybe I'm wrong- I was gone for a few days, and when I came back, that great thread was gone...

Update:

I have optimized the database a bit more but we seem to have a few queries that are locking everyone else out of the database, I didn't find any corruption in the DB, but we are eating a lot of IO on the database volume itself..

Investigation continues.. please stay tuned.

Latest is we have been looking into getting a second server to balance the load.

Even though we have a bad *** server now a second is needed.

That was the new post limiter feature. When you have over a specified number of posts in a day or certain timespan, your account will be suspended for a 24-hour period. Afterwards, you will be able to post for another specified number of posts.

This is just in jest

Well, there is one query that is locking the entire post text table for over 56 seconds, I'm trying to track down the specifics of the query and why it's returning so many rows..

English:

One user is holding up the entire website cause he's looking for a specific subset of data that is locking the database, when the database is locked on a table lock we have to wait for his search to finish. Until then everyone else has to wait.

I'm working on tweaking some MySQL settings tonight if you haven't noticed.
