^^^yeah, it skiped my mind cause there was already a thread in viet in the OT sections. but you're right, one should be in here. Happy new year to you to.
I thought "nips" meant Viet?
I don't know how it is in S.D. but here it is.
I always thought "nips" was a derogatory term for Japanese people.
"Nippon" = "Japan" in japanese before the westerners put it on their maps....so "Nip" was an abbreviation of that.
Some people in SD refer to vietnamese people as "gooks" but that is also a remnant from the Korean War that was carried over to the Vietnam War by American G.I.'s.
So that only leaves us with "charlie" or just "viets".
Whatever it is...it's hard to change lingos and subcultural terms. Call it as you wish as long as those who are listening, aren't offended.

Funny story, but that's where I got my name from. When my mother was pregnant with me, my father kept asking how the little "charlie" was. When I was born, they had been calling me "charlie" for months, so they named me Charles.
I'm still in Denver. I went back to CA for like 3 days then had to come back to Denver on an emergency. Been here every since. I plan on going back there in about a week or two. I'll let you know. Is that guy back from Vietnam?
