New Eclipse AVN 5495
Does anyone have any info on this unit by Eclipse? I believe it will be at CES in Jan. Looks like the same unit as the 2454, but they added HDD and a 5v output.

yes and no...
from what I understand they have yet to make the universal connectors for the decks.
Alpine and Kenwood and such have that the connector you need to hook up to the xm/sirrus tuners because many more of those units are sold in comparison to the eclipse decks
very soon the decks will be ready to rock and roll with those services

I sent this e-mail to Eclipse 2 moths ago:
I've seen mention of Eclipse head units capable of using Sirius , but nothing on your site. Are Eclipse head units able to transmit Digital radio and if so which ones?
Thanks,
Bob Morgan
This is the reply I received:
NO

They will probaly have it by late next year. Eclipse normally introduces new product line up in the fall instead of the spring. This seems to be changing though. I am glad to see they added HDD to their NAV--now that is the best of both. Any more info on it?
Also, I went on the G35driver.com site and some one was in touch with Eclipse, he recieved a reply that Eclipse was "considering" other options sucha as 5v preout, XM-Sirius, and combined HDD/Nav.

talked to a rep at sema. as said, they plan to introduce the model at CES in January and can have the product out as early as February, but more likely March.
As far as cost, it will BE LESS than the current AVN2454. They are trying to compete with the Pioneer AVIC-N1, which currently sells for $2000 retail. I believe the retail for the AVN2454 was like $2399.
Why r u guys pissed? Did you expect them not to come out with anything better? I was in the market for the AVN2454, but it had 0.8V pre-outs. Didn't want to compromise. Now it looks like I'll get what I wanted.
the rep also said they plan to discontinue the AVX model. screen resolution on the AVN5495 will be the same as the AVN2454.

I think many owners wanted the best of both, I even called Eclipse in the Spring asking if they would be adding a seperate nav unit to connect to the AVX units. Now there is no need for a cd changer now! All in one.
I wound if there will be two slots plus the HDD.
In japan, the almost same unit has HDD, DVD, and MD. real nice!

Also, I bet real soon you will start seeing Alpine and Pioneer come out with a DD unit. I prefer the DD unit, looks the best ! Any way I always liked Eclipse but they didn't have a NAV system w/ mapping until now.

i really like the fact avn 2454 has all-in-one featuer at no-bling look like other brands.
but alpine supports ipod alot better than eclipse.
what is you guys suggestion using ipod on this avn 2454/5495?

Since the AVn5424 has a 30g HDD, (3000 songs) I would just do that. If you frequenly download songs directly to your I-pod, I would get an adapter to connect the I-pod to the AVN. ( into the AUX source). But if you download anyway, just burn them into a cd and then insert the cd into the AVN, It records it in about 5 minutes. Even MP3's!
