Instant On Laser will get you unless your state doesnt have it, which I doubt!
GL though with your speeding and street racing though!

Damn that's freakin tight man and good looking. I'm glad i've already got the passport 8500 x50 and it will link up to the escort shifter zr3 laser jammer. That's what you call ultimate defense against cops. price for the laser jammer is pretty step, but i think it is worth it. $499.95 Go to http://www.passportsr1.com/zr3.htm

Why would a cop speeding up behind you be unlikely? they do it all the time. i get passed on the highway by cops doing close to a 100 at night constantly. they do this to sneak up on you. I cant live without the arrows. Best money i ever spent. Pop mode doesnt hold up in court so i really dont care if i have protection or not. V1 can be upgraded for free, you pay shipping is all i believe. I drove with an 8500 and after having the V1 i felt like the 8500 gave me no info. The display on the V1 is just so much better. The ZR3 laser shifter is great though. Just wish i could hook it up to my V1.

It will be interesting to see all the test results coming out in 2005. I've received a paper telling me to send my detector back in for upgrades in spring 2005. Good luck for all with not getting tickets...lol

Guys,
I have had 2 8500's and returned them due to the fact I really don't believe radar dectectors in city traffic really work and I was told as much by tech support at the different places I bought them. There is too much going on inside most city limits for them to work effectively. I noticed that I never got warned of police in the area till I was within sight of seeing them myself. Also, the windshields on newer cars affect performance and drastically cut down on the range of detectors. I'm no scientist but every time I have owned a detector and tried them for 30 days I came away feeling they were not effective at all and gave me no more advantage than the naked eye. I even had tech support at Passport tell me the same thing about using them in city traffic. SG

I've had an 8500 x50 for a year now. In city driving i would say its saved me several times. The only problem is that alot of cops don't have their radars on so you have to be vigilent or they will see you speeding and turn their detectors on. On the highway i think its a big help b/c cops just leave their radar on so i usually get alot of distance. Id be careful about street racing though.. all they need is to see you.

.... street race with no fears ... I would fear killing someone more than a fine.
But then that's just me.
I've used a V1 for the last six years.
If your city is wealthy enough they'll buy instant on "pop" radar guns or even a laser for the po-po and then you're looking at trouble. There's also the officer's calibrated eyeball for drag racing/exceeding conditions/excessive accelleration. More and more departments are finding the funding - or finding an insurance company to buy these better guns for the department.
Where I live the cops work in hunter-killer teams using two or more motor officers. The one with the Ka gun will park his bike on a side street beyond the sight of on coming traffic. He'll take the gun and walk whatever the power cord will allow him to walk from the bike. He holds the gun tight up against his chest and snipes at traffic that is moving faster than the rest (that calibrated eyeball thing going). When he catches someone speeding he'll use his radio to contact the "killers" who are a block down the road. They pull the speeder over onto another side street to lower thier profile and issue the ticket. Often the "killers" will be doing red light enforcement while their "hunter" is doing speed checks.
Be careful out there and fear death.

My passport works great in the daytime but at night ive had a few close calls. some cops dont zap you with their guns until they see your headlights and sometimes they point their car foward and you wont get a reflection unless someone is in front of you. Laser is a ***** too if you dont have a laser jammer your screwed.

This is an example to show you just how much the Valentine One has changed in just laser detection alone.
The Valentine One back in the day had six individual infrared laser photo diodes mounted on the laser board and facing the front of the car (two at an angle to obtain greater coverage).
http://www.ieec.binghamton.edu/ieec/..._detectors.htm
The current Valentine One has a huge prismatic lens for laser detection that will alert almost 100% of the time when shot with laser from almost any distance.
By comparison, the brand new Beltronics STi which is about $450 uses what looks like only 4 individual infrared laser photo diodes as you can see at the top of the 3rd picture in the link below (5 Optical Laser Sensors according to their website) to detect laser.
It appears that Beltronics latest and greatest STi is using Valentine One's old laser detection technique but they are using only 4 diodes and the old Valentine One used 6 diodes.
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf
This is the latest laser detection test and the STi gets owned by the Valentine One.

http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detec...ice-laser-gun/
As you can see, the STi can't detect Ku band if it ever becomes a threat in the U.S., it lacks in rear radar detection because it doesn't have a rear-facing antenna like the V1 and it gets killed by the V1 in laser detecton.
Bel did learn a thing or two from the Valentine One though, they made the STi with a magnesium case and a display that automatically adjusts the brightness based on ambient lighting......the Valentine One has had these things since 1992. It seems like $450 is quite a bit of money to spend on a product that can't beat the V1.

No correct. The new V-1's CAN detect KA pop.
