Thumbs up Radar Detectors

I've been using the world's best radar detector in the world (Passport 8500 X50 ) and still haven't gotten a ticket. I street race with no fears, travel on highways no slower than 100mph and in city limits i don't go more than 20mph over the speed limit due to the fact some cops like to use KA band which gives off a weak signal. It seems like cops us KA band in city limits and K band on highways. What kind of detector are you using and tell your experience with it?

Did you know that V1 can't pick up KA pop mode. To back my statement up go to www.radarbusters.com When you get to the comparsion test click on passport 8500 x50 and you see a former cop gave the passport 8500 x50 5 badges. Plus look at what companies sponsors it.

yes you are very right, but why even put yourself in that situation of having to go to court then on top of that, what if the person didn't know the technical factors, then they would be screwed. So why not in all just avoid it from happening in the first place.

don't know about you, but i get KA pop hits all the time with my V1... usually using on folks in front of me... you just have to know how to recognize the signal (as interpreted by your scanner).

also, might want to check out speedtrap.org before your next long drive, or just to make sure you know your area

That's kinda crazy that V1 is picking up pop mode due to the fact that it's technology is over 10years old. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i've done my research before making my final choice on the radar detector of choice. Pop mode hasn't been out that long for the technology to have been installed on the V1 and i can agree with you it could pick up KA band, but not the pop mode of KA. Pop mode is when the radar gun being fired can go from off to on, then back off in 1/10 of a sec. There's only a few radars detectors out there that can detect the pop mode. When it comes to just picking up the regular bands like K, KA and X without pop mode and detecting them with the furthest distance, there's a 3 way tie to a degree. V1 was one of them, passport 8500 x50 and beltronics which was bought out by the company escort. Under the articles of speed zones in 2004 which had cops testing the equipment out and all agreed upon that, the best radar detector for over $300 and worlds best radar detector is the Passport 8500 X50 case in point.

yep, i gotcha... also known as instant on (or a derivation of the technology)....

FWIW, the V1 is occasionally updated, in fact, if you've got an old one, you can get yours updated from valentine (whether that be a casing update, firmware update, detector update, etc.)... at least that's what my buddy said... mine is only 5 months old, so i haven't seen a reason to update it

yeah I hate VA...Watch out for the signs warning about signs up ahead.

The only good thing I can think of...the roads in the mountains are pretty much breath taking.

Damn that's interesting to know now i know they have pop mode now. But still V1 isn't number 1 here's the proof for 2004. http://www.speedzones.com/ If anybody is interested in purchasing the passport 8500 x50 straight from the manufacture here you go http://www.escortstore.com/x50.htm. I order mines at like 9am and had it the next day around lunch. Another thing i should add is that if you was to receive this radar detector, the pop mode will be defaulted to off. Read the manual to cut it on.

meh, #1 whatevah brah...

i just like my directional arrows, and i've never been comfortable in a car that doesn't have a detector with 'em

when you've got that much money to spend on a detector, i guess it all comes down to personal preference

LMAO, that's cool man.. Sometimes i think of running two of them at the same time for double protection...lol My second detector would most definitely be the V1.

V1 all the way. I think the POP capability is fairly recent so it may have not been available when those tests were done. I've had mine for the past three months and it has saved me tons of times. I especially like the directional arrows. Tells me where the "bogeys" are.

Most of these "tests" are done by the manufactures them selves or are sponsored by manufactures. I don’t put a lot of validity in them.

Just curious how the x50 detects POP mode. If there is no radar being transmitted what is it detecting?

The direction arrow thing would be good, but think about this..If your speeding how in the hell would a cop be detecting you from the back unless he was speeding. But that would be highly unlikely, so i don't feel the need for the arrow thing and most of the detection you should have would be coming from the side or head on. I never said the V1 isn't a good product it's just ranks second. Remember radar detectors should be mounted almost as high as your rear view mirror for those who puts it on the dash, that's a big NO....lol
