Default Nakamichi components

Has anyone tried the Nakamichi SP-S6500 series component speakers?

Nakamichi car products were really big a few years ago but they are doing down these days since they don't release new things well.
i personally own a few nakamichi products (not car products) and quality is amazing but i wouldnt buy now since i don't see their avtive business any more.
i would go with mb quarts. just my personal opinion. thanks.

I am running an MB Quart Sub and I agree it's quality and sound is very impressive. For the 6.5's I am not running a great deal of power..only about 45W RMS from a smaller amp. I was looking at the Naks because they are rated for a lower wattage (20 - 75) than many of the other mid-high grade components which want more like 70-150W RMS. Do you guys think I would have problems running the MB Quart set at lower wattage? I'm not really looking at getting a new amp right now and I don't see myself going over 70W RMS per channel in the future.

Also, which model of the MB Quart were you referring to? The PCE or the RCE

My personal experience with Nak car audio has always been uber-positive. But, the last time I heard their stuff was like 10 years ago. An installer I worked with put 2 8's into his Mazda x-cab pickup. SQ was amazing. I'd assume they've only gotten better with time, but that's me assuming...

Quarts are so bright though. Focals are quite a bit smoother and have fantastic SQ.

Focals I have heard sound great, but I haven't been able to buy a pair for myself, let alone hear them. Places around here that sell them never have them on any sort of display and they're always really overpriced

Yeah, they're pricey, but take a peek around. PM me for someone with fair prices on them. Listening to the two side by side -- my ears wanted to bleed with the Quartz -- simply too harsh a sound for my tastes. They'd prolly be great if you listen to lots of stuff with clear vocals / brass instrumentation though... but that's not me.

That's a big problem with recommending people speakers. What may sound great to you, could easily not fit the other person's taste, even with similar interests in music.

I've heard the Focals have pretty good bass output and a nice warm sound, kinda like the Polks. Is that fairly accurate? I always liked the sound of most Polk stuff.

I'd agree with that -- the Focals would be "warm" compared with the Quarts that could be termed "cool". I've got a pair of 165k2p and a pair of 165v2. They're powered by a 300/4. Team that up with a 10w6v2 powered by a 250/1.

Rahtok, did you have any trouble installing the front components. Was the depth of the mid or the size of the tweets a problem?

lol. Funny you should mention that, cuz I did have a lot of trouble getting the big ones up front. I had custom spacers made, I started trimming the inside of the door panels, it was tricky. Eventually though, I just couldn't find enough space back there to leave enough room for the driver to move without touching something, so I switched the big driver to the rear and used the rear ones up front. I did keep the Poly's crossover and the bigger 50 mil tweets up front. The tweets look sweet up there and fit no problem.

If I had to do it again though, I don't think I'd spring for the k2ps for up front -- just not enough room, and I'd rather of put the couple hundred in extra $$ towards something else. Though I suppose that's hard to say with certainty cuz that's whats in there now and the SQ is wonderful.

Really, that much work huh? I was looking for a set that wouldn't require anything more than the stock spacer and not having to slice into the door panel.

Just don't use something like the 165 k2p up front. the smaller 165 v2 would have fit fine with just a custom spacer and no cutting... I just didn't start out that way. Hopefully others will have an easier time of it and learn from my mistakes!

Yeah right, you're probably running a 286 with 10M Harddisk and Windows 3.0 :-)))

Hey I forgot to ask if you used any dampening/sound proofing in your ride. With all that power do you get a ton of rattles?

Yeah, I soundproofed the doors and everything where the glovebox/rear speakers are. I was going to do the rear hatch area, but after putting the sub in, I don't have any rattles back there, so no harm no foul.

I still have a 286 around here somewhere. The 'oldest' machine I currently have operational is the Sun Netra T105. It's "only" a 360 MHz UltraSparc -- but it still does a fine job of web hosting and email!
