Well...due to the fact that it is "illegal" to have video in view of the driver the new stereo I am putting in has to be wired so the DVD feature is only available when the parking brake is on. Does anybody know how to dis-engage this "feature"(aka...B/S).

 

It has to do with the grounding. My installer put mine in so that the unit is always "hot", even when the emergency brake is not on.

If you are having it installed, I guarantee the installer knows how to bypass that feature.

All of the companies that produce TV headunits put wires in them that connect the headunit to the ebrake. This makes it so the TV can only open or be on when the ebrake is up. What you have to do is (instead of connecting it to the ebrake) you connect this wire to a ground inside of the car, and you trick the TV into thinking that the ebrake is always up, so this way it comes out whenever you want it too.

And yes, I close my TV whenever I am near a cop, or getting pulled over of course

 

I know the installer would be "ABLE" to do it. I just don't think they will.

I just stopped by the place I am planning to have my install done. I want to keep this whole process as cheap as possible. I was wondering if anyone here has upgraded their system and kept the rear speakers and sub-woofer. I just want to replace the front speakers but the installer doesn't know if that would be possible due to the ohm ratings of my stock speakers.

 

the bose amp is not enough power to drive the new speaker. you will end up upgrade the entire system.

 

I was planning on replacing the amp. But I want to keep the rear speakers and/or the subwoofer.

 

once you replace the front speaker and you will see how BAD the bose sub and rear speaker are, you will end up replace ALL. That what happen to me. hehehe

btw, the bose is suck. it is either you keep all or replace all. You can't mix.

 

I pondered the situation and realized that I won't be happy until everything is brand-shiny-new.

I can give my Bose stereo to my friend (he has a le-mans orange 1984 Nissan king cab-LOL). He REALLY needs a new stereo. I mean...he has about a grand worth of amps for his band in the back of the truck and in the front he has an am-fm radio with a broken casette deck.

I couldn't convince my installer to ground the wire for me... I guess they got in trouble before or something. Does anyone have a step by step guide walkthrough on how to ground the wire? Any help would be appreciated.

 

find your installation manual.... look for the wire code that says 'hand brake'

Ripp your dash apart and look at the wiring harness. Find the wire that matches the code from the installation manual...cut the wire and extend the wire then ground it. Find a screw that attaches to metal on the car and get it on there some how.

 

kick the installer down $20 and he'll do it.

 

you gotta watch that though. most units have a timed relay on that handbrake wire. you can't just wire it to (+) or (-) (whatever input it asks for) because a lot of units will just shut off after x amount of hours of constant input to that lead. headunit designers are sneaky gits about that. they know that lots of people would just ground the wire permanently and be done with it. you usually have to make a timed ground relay or something similar. do a search, i saw somebody here post a diagram with stuff you can get from radio shack to put it together...

 

....and yes, usually if you just give the guy $20, he'll do it.

Its an Alpine IVA-D300. I was reading that to get the DVD to work you have to hold down your brake pedal, engage--dis-engage--and re-engage the parking brake. I just don't want to start with the conversations...
Friends: "Let's watch a movie on our way"
Me: "We can't...it only works when we're not moving"
Friends: "That is so gay!"
Me: "Don't blame me!! Blame those tricky a-holes!"

Then we get into the whole...what are you gonna do?? Sit in a parking lot and watch a movie? I just really want it to work while I'm driving.

 

It will be just fine to ground the parking brake on that deck... walk into a dealer and look at that deck on the wall.... It's handbrake wire is grounded, works just fine.
