Default 04 Nav Cubby

I was wondering for all of you that have replaced your 04 Nav cubby with an 03: I have heard that the 04 is good for screens because it blocks the sunlight - but I am not going to know how I like it until I have my monitor installed - so my question is - will it cost more in installation labor to change to the 03 cubby after I get my monitor installed? Would they need to remove the whole thing or can just the door be replaced without touching the monitor? I don't want to burn extra cash, and if its a big deal I will just get the 03 right off the bat.

Thanks.

it is not possible to get the monitor installed on the 04 cubby and be able to see the entire screen. In the Drivers seat the left side will be cut off. Plus you have to have a shop cut and custom fit the cubby to the monitor. Get the 03 cubby, unscrew the 4 screws that hold the pocket on. And thats it. Just mount the monitor and your done. Its easy. Took me about 45 min and I had to uninstall mine from the 04 first.

Wow, thanks alot Shift_Daytona Z, sounds like you saved me a large headache. Did you hook up the motorized assembly so that it opens automatically when you turn on the system? The other thing I was slightly concerned about was the different texture of the 03 and having it look kind of weird. I am going for a super-stealth install here. Thanks again!

It is a little bit lighter but you will be the only one that notices becuase you will know. There is hardly no difference. I didnt use the motorized cubby. That is on the 04 and up and it is expensive. Plus I always have mine up anyway so I dont need it. As for the look and feel everyone thinks that my car has factory eveything except the radio.

I am looking at doing pretty much the same components you have - do you have any pictures available by any chance?

Thanks.

I have not yet had the chance to check out the 05 nav cubby. I was curious to your thoughts on it.

Anyone have a step by step on installing the 03 and how much is it? Who sells them?

What exactly are you offering to mount? Would I send you the entire cubby and you just retro-fit the door? I remember seeing somewhere on here a thread about someone installing the motorized mechanism. Anyone have a link to that? I wonder if it is worth doing...I remember the 03 doors I've seen being very flimsy. You guys know of any modification that would stabilize it and make it more durable?

I have an 03 door in my car and it is not flimsy, I like it. I was talking about mounting your monitor in the dash. The motorized door is not worth it to me. Too much work for something stupid.
