Default NEW Pioneer AVIC-D1 (Double DIN)

I was doing some research on the Eclipse AVN5495 and I happened to stumble upon a Japanese article about the soon to be released (Spring 2005) Pioneer AVIC-D1. I did a search on Pioneer's website and found a press release.

The main reason that I hadn't considered the AVIC-N1 is that I didn't want a pop up screen. It looks like this unit solves that issue. I thought that some of you might be interested...

wow that is the ****!!! i would be reluctant to install it because it gives punk bastards additional incentive to break into my car. im content with bose audio, but i would love a screen. maybe i will install one in the nav box, so i can keep it stealth.

now if pioneer would only add 5.1 surround and dvd audio to this unit it would be perfect.

Sorry, I have nowhere to host the images and I really don't want to signup for any image hosting services. If you send me a PM with your e-mail address, I can send you the pictures directly. Or, maybe someone else can post the images.

By the way, I just checked the links and I'm not having any trouble connecting. Is anyone else having trouble connecting?

"The AVIC-D1 uses a DVD-ROM drive to provide navigation information. A separate CD drive in the unit provides playback of most compact discs, .mp3 and WMA CDs, all with maximum power and sound performance. "

Hmm it doesnt appear it has DVD video playback, or am I just reading this wrong. If that is the case i'd go with the Eclipse AVN5495 instead.

Look to see if it has the "DVD Video" logo. If it does, it should play DVDs. Also look for Dolby Digital logo.

I saw this at the CES. The Rep told me that it would NOT play DVDs. He also said the Pioneer is setting it up their systems not to view DVDs from the dash. No matter what tricks we use. He was kind of an A**hole too.

Oh well, It sucks to be Pioneer . I just gor Eclipse's 2005 brochure. Very awesome stuff. Their new AVN5495 has everything. Except Sirius ready, but I heard they may be configuring it to be Sirius ready. The AVN5435 is the same as the AVN2454 except that it is Siruis ready, HD ready, ESN, and 5volt preout. They are keeping the AVX2494 and AVX2404 which was thought to be phased out but these units are hot. One thing should be known, Eclipse set the standard for slide out monitors and NAV. Everyone else followed or borrowed their technology including Alpine. I talked to my local shop owner and compared info. Interesting stuff! I think that is stupid that Pioneer doesn't have the AVIC-D1 playing DVD's. That in no way is any competion w/ KEnwood or Eclipse. They just gave the option up for someone to choose the Eclipse over them ????? That sucks that the rep was an *******. Sounds like he didn't want to be there at the show.

Love to get a look at the 2005 Eclipse brochure. If you have it in electronic format, would you e-mail it to me?

I have the pioneer 7500 and it's awesome. I like the pop out touch screen. The features are great. The only thing it doesn't have is Nav but can be added. I have 5.1 surround sound in my car... watching DVD's in there is the best... although I watch TV more often. I watch DVD's when driving back home to CA to visit. It makes the drive much better.

My TV is always on... but I listen to XM and watch TV... while I'm driving. I've only had 1 cop say "I won't write you up for watching TV" I told him it was a DVD... he saw the damn TV show I was watching... so busted... but he was cool for not ticketing me.

The TV works out great for passengers.
