A radar detector is there to catch the flaws of your eyes/brain when in need to speed. Doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention but that when you do pay attention you most likely wont get caught. It's a two man team...you look out for the cops with the radars off(probabably on a lunch break or coming from the courthouse where they don't want to deal out another ticket so the radar is off) and the radar detects the cops who have to make ends meet by the end of the month.

A radar needs to be on. A cop could be two lanes next to you and the radar won't go off. If one were solely paying attention to the radar then I can easily see how one would get a ticket.

You should drive out late at night around your area(i'm sure you know where the hot spots are) and test it out. You'll be suprised how well it works. Also keep in mind if you have a huge truck in front of you it may not work as well...it will detect but it seems to be less effective(similar to the windshield wiper theory.)

I love it passport 8500 x50....most cops in my area are KA bands and I had a SHERRIFF shoot out a K band...that was rare. Haven't been hit by laser yet...which is supposed to be the most challenging.

 

I've been hit with a laser but luckily I wasn't speeding. I heard it's too late if you get laser because they already have you speed clocked. I'm serious thinking about getting the ZR3 Laser shifter which is a great combo and can link up to the Passport 8500 X50.

 

No problems with my x50 in north dallas. I don't speed much on 75 b/c I hear they use laser there. Richardson, Murphy and Plano use KA and the x50 picks them up from a long way.

Garland still uses K and likes to hang out in grocery store parking lots so you got to be careful and make sure your K's are not false alarms.

I would recommend using expert mode.
