IR Satellite Radio remote - Is there a way to boost signal strength?

My Sirius satellite receiver came with a infra-red remote. I enjoy using the remote (vs. pushing the buttons on the receiver) but it must be carefully aimed so that the head unit responds. The process of aiming it "just right" seems to be a tad on the sensitive side.
Has anyone else experinced this and come up with a solution?
Since my Sirius satellite receiver is in my (open) Nav box area, I considered attaching a mirror to the back of the Nav door. I'm thinking that the mirror might bounce or relay the IR signal to the receiver.
Are the "radio" head units that have remotes like this too (sensitive)?
