Where can i buy MDF??
Hey guys, im going to be making a fiberglass box, i was curious where i can buy mdf board at for the sub box?? Thanx

I had to go with 5/8" for my fiberglass box top because of height restrictions under the trunk floor. However, I used another 3/4" piece glued on as a ring riser to raise the driver to carpet level. It seems to work very well at 300W. If you are going to drive something crazy go with thicker MDF.
Are you all set with fiberglass material? Where are you putting this box?

Yah, i know how to fiberglass and stuff, thats not a problem. I have the resin and materials needed for that. I was just unsure what thickness and location i could get the MDF.
The box is going to have 3 tens in it. Maybe 2 tens im not too sure. Im leaning towards 3 tens mounted under the strut bar except the subs will be on the opposite side of the strut bar (the side closest to the driver. Im not too sure what im doing about amp placement at the moment, ill figure something out.
Heres a pic of what im doing except with 3 tens.
One question. I know for the subs to perform at max quality you need to have an appropriate airspace. Now i know this applies to sealed boxes, should i do the same with this fiberglass box? Im unsure how to measure the airspace in these fiberglass boxes because there not semetrical boxes. ANy advice?? or does airspace not matter when doing a fiberglass box??

It is just as important. fg is just stronger so the bottom and sides can be thinner. I've had two fg boxes in my Z. One under the strut bar with the sub facing aft, and another in the spare tire well with the sub flush with the floor. I was able to approximately measure the airspace in both using foam peanuts and a square cardboard box. Fill your fg box first, then empty the peanuts into the square box and take measurements. You are in Riverside huh? My neighbor.

We've probably passed each other on the 15. I live in Wildomar. When you get this box done, we should meet up and compare systems some time.

honestly .. the thicker the face you can use the better. you want as little box interaction as possible. FG is good for this b/c after a few layers it is extremely rigid and gets heavy quick
A 1" front baffle is by no means over kill. I use a 1.5" laminated sheet for the baffe on my fg box.
Just think about it ... you want a speaker that makes noise .. not a box that does as well ... all in all you will be just fine, Just be sure to use all the FG you got (you already paid for it anyways)... I always just filled in the inside with some layers all over the place for strength .... sealed boxes can never be strong enough.
the packing peanuts idea works great ... sand works well too .. but its a pita to clean.

Yah well see how it comes out. Maybe i could come over to your place if im having some trouble as this will be my first time building a sub box

Sounds good Bryan. I agree with the others here, make the MDF as thick as possible if you have the space to do so. Let me know if you want to stop by, I still have my car all apart from soundproofing anf amplifier work so it will be easy to show you how I molded mine to fit.
