Default Help pick my sub

Wanted to get the suggestions on a good sub for my 350Z. HU is a Kenwood 7015, amp is a Mcintosh MC431 amp, Focul Utopias up front. Space is a major concern in the car as I dont want to be building a gigunda box, as I won't keep this car forever. So, right now the ideas are to do a box behind the driver seat, or build a box/amp rack in place of the spare tire. My only other "requirement" is the brand itself.....I sort of like keeping things off the beaten path, so I am looking for a top quality sub from a higher end company. I know the standard answer when it comes to "which sub" tends to be "which JL", but for this car, I am looking to go with something a bit different

thanks in advance!

Image Dynamics IDMAX

Totally high end. Sounds better than JL.

or...

RE audio, XXX

or...

Adire, Brahma

You won't be disapointed with the IDMAX subs.

Rockford, as good as they might be, is not the name I am looking for....sounds a bit snobbish I know, bu like I said, I sort of want stuff off the beaten path.

The IDQ's were suggested by my cousin - I believe he said the Q was more of an SQ unit, the Max was more for SPL. Volume wise, the system will be loud enough for me I am sure....I want, tight, well defined bass, not something overbearing.

The Brahama's were also high on the list as well, as suggested by a buddy of mine in the Evo world who is a partner in a stereo place in NJ

You are sorta correct about the Image Dynamics. However, the MAX is a SQ driver first, then SPL driver. Yes, it gets loud, but it sounds oh so good doing it. Much better than the JL, rockford blahb alhb subs.

Brahamas are no longer in production. You will not be able to get an Adire sub until the fall as they are redoing a whole bunch of their stuff.

Z1,

I'd suggest an IDMAX as well ... or a XXX

The IDMAX is know to be a great SQ subwoofer and can get loud.

The XXX shares the XBL^2 topology as the Brahma ... it has just been massaged by RE to make it thier "type" ... giving it a lil more SPL than the Brahma ... yet maintaining the amazing SQ XBL^2 is known for.

Both of these are rare enough to meet your criteria, I think

Elemental Design. The thing I like about mine is the recommended sealed box dimension is .3 - .5 cu. ft.
Nice small box. I think they have a design with pattern on their site for the different subs they sell.Great sound. Great warranty. Great service.

Yeah--

As someone that has actually OWNED all of the following:

RE XXX, Brahma MK1, JL 10W7, 12W7, Elemental E10a, I can say without a doubt there is nothing better than the Brahma or XXX for the money right now. They are extremely powerful subs (heavy as well) and give great lows as well as transitions. Mate them with the recommended enclosures and you'll have one thumpin system!

The XBL^2 is a great technology--I'm a huge fan. I took a risk with Adire two and a half years ago when the Brahma came out, and have never been happier.

I may be the minority here, but the W7 has failed to impress me time and time again, no matter which size or type of enclosure. Tried it sealed..it was so so...tried it ported to 32 hz, and it was ok. But the Brahma and XXX even sealed blew me away. With XBL^2 its almost like the sub doesnt make noise, it truly just pushes air (I'm sure you users know what I mean).

OT but have you guys seen the " xxx replacement" ? That thing is a beast. If they make it in a 10 I'm getting one for the Z for sure.

Regards and good luck:

Ravi

I dont like the w7 either. Ive heard both the brahma and XXX.... blew me away also. I am picking up two XXX to replace my 10s now.

Ive seen a picture of the OT in action....... that is a beast. Can not wait to see it.
