Thumbs up Update: More on Video-Nav conversion

I know there has been alot of posts and a couple threads regarding the stock NAV conversion to work with external inputs like a dvd player, ps2, etc. In large part, thanks to internetabyss and skidazzle for paving the way for the rest of us. They decided to go with the http://www.nav-tv.com which is rather pricey...I think the setup is around +$1000.

I have contacted the guys at video-nav and they have been working on a solution that is more cost effective. They utilize an intermediate setup between the NAV control and the NAV screen which allows you to add external inputs, adds a tv tuner, and also is equipped with an FM modulator via Pioneer GEX-P7000TV. Using this setup, there will be no splicing needed, which is a good thing!

I have priced their unit which is about $300 and the the Pioneer unit is less than $300, so all in all, the setup is less than $600. I will let you all know what the deal is when he informs me.
Below is the email on the status of the setup:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Rod,
Thank you for your interest in the Video Nav System. We have
just begun testing the PBA-N1 on the new Nissan 350Z. Things look very positive and the setup is very standard to that of Lexus and Acura so it looks like it will work fine but we have not finished all testing. Once all testing is complete, we will contact you with the results and let you know how things are and if interested, you may purchase the unit at that time.

We will definitly inform you once we are ready to begin selling
the PBA-N1 for the new Z. I don't really have a lead time but I
anticipate (no guarantee) that things should be completed by probably mid December so about 3-4 weeks or so. The other problem that we are battling at this time is of course the holidays.

Please feel free to contact us should you have any further
questions. We will let you know once we have all the results back for the Z.

Best regards,

600....dvd player not included, and install cost not included.

we spent alot less than $600 for the rgb convertor and the fm modulator....but got no tv- tuner....but did get brightness, contrast, red and blue value control.

pluse this system is compact and fits in the factory dash below the radio....yours wont.

I investigated all the options for months....the one I did was by far the best deal...

I spent $1000 for parts install, dvd player....total out the door cost.

Skidd...got the best deal....it cost him $1000 and he added a reverse cam....he did all the work himself....I wish I didnt have to be the first test pig..or I would have done it myself since its so easy.

Could you tell us how you did the setup and what materials you used? Also how was it easy? I'm looking into doing this as well.
