Default CB Radios

Does anyone here use a CB radio?

Is it useful?

Does it help you know where all the speed traps are?

Is reception static (still) a big problem?

CB ... nope. I use amateur radio (ham) in my SUV as you run into a better class of people

They do get better range and if you're using 440 MHz the antennas are tiny - the size of cell phone antennas. They do require a licensed operator but they also use repeaters which means a little 25W transmitter in my car and talk the entire lenght of California hoping the repeaters of Condor Net. Locally I use another repeater to cover the entire valley I live it with as little as 0.1W.

I use a V1 radar detector to discover where the police have set up speed traps. The police in the local cities are pretty mobile running around setting up here and there for just a few minutes at a time. On the highway the V1 gives me as much as five miles of warning on our nice flat and wide freeways here in California and the South-West.

Yes, I do have one, I live next to a freeway and use it everyday. i find it very usefull to find out traffic and speed traps. I use "through the glass" antenna just like a cell phone antenna ( a bit longer) i think i get about 2 miles range from it. I can take a pic if you want, it might not look great on a Z but its worth it for me. Also you have to use a CB antenna, any other would not work.
