Default Had a 10W7--too loud. What do I do for more sq?

I hate using adjectives for sound that I want to acheive, but I'm looking for a "Bose-like" bass, something clean, warm, more like you feel it than hear it.

I used to have a Brahma 15 that had this sound. Even my elemental e10a (flat cone days) had this sound.

What do you guys recommend now that would sound similar to the xbl^2 drivers? I've tried again and again, but I'm really not feeling the JL Audio sound--tried ported/sealed, 12W7, 10W7, etc. Please no suggestions for JL, or more mainstream brands.

EDIT: Thought I would add that I want the sub to go super low, and have a good sound even on the outside of the car. I listen primarily to rap/hip hop.

Thanks all!

ravi

if you liked the brahma15, why not try a brahma10 or 12? i really wanted a brahma 10, but i got a super deal on my W7, and would probably have had to upgrade my 500/1 for something with more power.

Get and Ascendant Audio Avalanche 12.

The Ava15s are even being preferred over the Brahma15 nowadays for its ever (who knows how) better SQ.

They are XBL2 for a lil while longer ... then they are apparently switching to a nrs setup ... but the first order that is still availible will be xbl2 for you listening pleasure

Jim, do you have a website for that company? I've heard of their name before, however haven't heard them in person. WHere do you plan on putting your sub?

Jim, do the avalanches get pretty loud? Also, where are you installing it considering its a 12.

I'm also looking at sound splinter rl-p's.

+1 The ultimate for me is being able to roll up the window and not hear a thing outside of the car.

Ravi,

The ava will get loud. I have not heard it in person ... but I trust that it will be plently loud.

As for location. I currently have 2 12s in my spare tire area that I glassed in there. I am going to just make a new box for this one right there.

SS RLPs are gonna be just as good, if not better than these .... but I thought they were gonna cost a bit more, no?

AlumaPro. It produces a much more subtile bass but can boom as well if you want.

Ok...so I'm trying to narrow it down.

At first I was thinking 3 10's for shock factor, but thats really a lot of weight. Now its between 2 10's (mostly like RE SE 10's, or whatever xbl2 driver I can get in 10") or one 12.

I'm leaning more towards the pair of 10's due to more surface area (obviously) and I can also buy that box off of ebay for cheap. Thus, looking for a good 10"...XBL^2 or similiar only please.

I was tired of waiting for my JL Audio woofers and amp to come in so I put my really, really crappy 5 year old MTX 10" woofers and Kenwood bridgable amp in and it sounds FANTASTIC! And I do mean these speakers are in horrible condition, one of them has a small hole in it and the other one is spliting apart where the goofy MTX logo is. I didn't know speakers got better with age but apparently these did.

They give me the sound you are talking about. You don't hear them so much as feel them. They aren't obtrusively loud and without them the total soundstage is clearly missing something. I would go so far as to say, "they complete me [stereo]."

I'm also using the fantastic understrut box made by mlg9770 from this board. I'm sure the quality of this box helps a lot.

Those same speakers in my Golf were so loud outside my car it was embarassing. Aiming them towards the rear of the boot, as the understrut box does, seems to really make the subwoofers come to life and you can't hear them outside the car as you could in the Golf. I am going from 3 10's to 2 10's but still...

So, to make a short story long, what sub box are you using?

Kaitain, thanks for your reply. I've never had a hatch before, so I'm new to optimal placements for spl in this car (or sql for me personally).

Since I'm going with a pair of 10's, I've decided either something from RE, or anywhere else that is currently making a good 10" driver. I'm used to using super subs (Brahma, XXX, E10A series) so its hard for me to compromise on not getting the most high end I can. I'm toying with the idea of a pair of 10" Image Dynamic ID Maxes. I'm not certain yet...all I know is that I want it to be bass I can feel, not necessarily hear (you xbl users know whats up).

BTW, I'm also getting the box from mgl. Thought I would add: the W7 series has never impressed me..sealed/ported, no matter what size, its not warm sounding at all (personally). Coming from my audio experience its just a sound taste I've developed...they sound like thudding rather than warm.

Ravi
