Pioneer Avic N2 - QUESTIONS
I located a brand new Pioneer Avic N2 for a little under $1500.. I actually found 2 places in Los Angeles that carry this particular model for this particular price. Brand new not refurbished. How much was your N2 unit?
Also.. I've been calling around to see if anyone has bypassed the security interface for the unit that allows you to drive and watch DVD's at the same time.
I have found 3 places in the Los Angeles area that have bypassed the DVD security.. the guy told me they hooked up the wire to the rear view camera or something tricking the gyro something something.. I dunno wasn't really listening but they said they could do it. Can anyone vouch for these guys? because the research that I've done so far was the nobody could bypasss the security interface on the N2 model.
thanks!

You can do that, but you get a message at the bottom of the screen, letting you know that objects might be reversed or they are larger than they appear. I dont remember which one it is.
Connecting the rear screen monitor output to the rear camera input is just going to put the DVD output onto a portion of the screen - along with the warning. The other portion of the screen says navigation. This is all based on my reading of the owner's manual.
I don't think anyone's beaten the software yet. There are plenty of people claiming that they know how to do it but refusing to state the procedure for fear of causing global nuclear war or something. Personally I think that they're spouting bs and the system hasn't been beaten.
Driving with a DVD movie playing is a bad thing but I would like the ability for my navigator (wife) to be able to change the navigation destination while moving.

I guess all I'll need to install extra is just the wiring harness and mounting kit(i'm guessing this is the DIN kit). Thanks for the help.

single DIN = 7in x 2in
double DIN = 7in x 4in

the only way to bypass it is to find out how it detects movement. all older models that connect to the parking brake can easily be bypassed... you just ground the parking brake wire. i'd like to know how the n2 detects movement.
It uses the internal gyroscope of the Navigation system. If you disable that, then your Navigation portion of the unit will not operate properly. Plus it takes quite a bit of knowledge to actually open the unit up and disable the gyroscope.
Warning, if you tamper with the gyro your navi will be off and you will lose the vehicle dynamics function of the navi (the whole reason i bought mine.) I'm in the process of finding the code on the install disc that came with it to bypass the gyro and detect the parking brake. I will keep you posted with what i find.
You can by pass this by not wiring the VSC (Speed sensor). You will be off by approx 15 to 25 ft when dealing with NAV though. But i think that's not too bad..
Reason - that's how the Gyro sensor knows if the vehicle is trely moving or not.
I can't tell you where I got this info but trust me. it works. good luck!

I just installed a second video screen.
Where did you guys with the N2 place your brain unit. The logical place is under the seat but its not a flat surface. If you placed it there what did you to to make it lay evenly flat?
Guys, I had it under the pass seat for now almost a year. Its perfect. your gyro sensor will calibrate everytme you turn it on. as long as you place it front position (marked by an arrow i beleive), you will have no problem. Don't let any bone head drink anything in your car.
Can you someone confirm that you can listen to a CD and watch do NAV at the same time? Someone at best buy told me you couldnt play a CD and do NAV simultanously...but that sounds preposterous to me.....what would the point be?
Also, is the entire NAV map loaded into the memory? Or do you have to switch to the NAV CD when plotting a destination.
Thanks!

The AVIC N2 has an internal memory storage for a limited amount of navigation. Once you run a route you can pop the DVD disk out and play an MP3 or audio CD. If you stray off your route too far you'll wander off the map and need to put the nav DVD back in.
I think I've solved that problem with a 6 CD changer that I'm going to mount aft.
