Default Is it safe to just unplug a Basslink and leave the wires exposed?

This is actually for another vehicle, but I want to install a basslink that I've had for a while. The only problem is that it is going in a hatch area and I want to be able to take it out sometimes and use the space. I envision just leaving the RCA cable, power wire, ground, and turn-on lead tucked in the corner of the vehicle, where I can attach them to the basslink again later.

Is this OK to do?? Or do I have some kind of electrical issues to worry about? I can bypass the sub at the headunit, so I'm not worried about the quality of sound without it, just any other type of problem I may be creating.

Thanks.

if your power wire (from the battery) touches ANYTHING that is considered a ground it will short circuit and start a fire.

I figured I could just remove the inline fuse, but that's a GOOD tip! I guess I am wondering if any of the other connections are "hot." I guess the amp turn-on lead would be the other possible problem??

amp remote lead doesnt carry enough current to start a fire but power from the battery does for sure. What are you trying to do?

I have a Honda Element that I bought to haul my surf gear and other sports stuff. I like to use it as a mini camper of sorts, so I need to be able to fold the seats up and sleep on the floor.

I replaced the HU and all door speakers and am pretty happy with the result. But I have a brand new Basslink that I bought for the truck I had before my Element. The room behind the seat of the truck didn't hold the Basslink well, so I never used it.

So I figured I could put the Basslink in the back of the Element to fatten up the sound. The only problem is that when I take a trip in it, I need to remove the Basslink because it takes up a lot of usable space on the floor in the back where I want to mount it.

I guess this is the problem with all cars. There really isn't a lot of room to mount things, once you get right down to it. If I just used the Element as a daily driver, I would hard-mount the Basslink and have no problem.

you can go to pepboys and buy shielded connectors and connect them to the power line and the ground and the remote etc. then whenever you do need to take it out just unhook the connections and snap in an empty connector end so it doesnt touch anything. then you would be fine

Thanks. That sounds like a safe idea. I think I should just find a better use for the dang thing, and leave it in. That is, find a place in this car, or a different car, and just mount it permanently.

you can NOT leave a power wire directly from your battery flopping around in your car. do me a favor and touch it to the frame of your car or something with grounding properties. you will get a huge spark and possibly some smoke and a small fire.
