Well, for our cars the best place for the sub is "rear facing" so under the strut brace is really the best location and you don't lose that much space.

That said, I know several have used the factory location for a sub upgrade and are happy with it. I believe for best results you'll need to build som type of enclosure for it though.

Preferably yes. They are not in an optimal spot. I really don't think the replacement size matters all that much. Mine are installed in the factory door location with my woofers.

Keeping the stock hu. Is it possible to hook up a amp to the stock speakers, disconnecting the bose sub and adding a mono block amp with subs?

JL audio now makes an adaptor/interface that allows you to use any factory headunit, custom equalize the signal and hook up to aftermarket amps and speakers. It's on their website. It's called the CleanSweep.

Speed: I saw this from another site and it looks promising for those who don't want to change the h/u. From what I gather though, the stock h/u (in my case Blose) is the source of problem of crappy sound in the first place. Good idea if you want to half do it I guess.

I have heard this too, but the CleanSweep does allow some degree of signal modification. Bose should be ashamed. Their system in my wife's '05 Maxima is one of nicest audio systems I have ever heard in any car at any price. Don't know what went so wrong in the Z.

Do you think the Clean Sweep would be effective, work well for the factory, non-Bose HU?
